Pre-race routine:

Packed all my gear the night before but didn't get to bed as early as planned. Woke up a few times during the night and half an hour before my alarm went off. Lots of nerves again! Managed to get a banana and english muffin with vegemite down. Thankfully I didn't taste these during the race!
Event warmup:

Met up with Erin & Sarsha and checked out the tri club we might join. Had my epic blister that I got from running in the heat with no socks on friday taped by medical staff.

Organisers had trouble closing the roads and we were well late to start, big black clouds looked as though they were going to roll in at any moment and the temp dropped a fair bit. Gave us chics first off a chance to have a chat.
Swim
  • 04m 11s
  • 200 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

Again congested until rounding the bouy and then I found some space to actually swim. Looking at the time its much better than my first race for the season.
What would you do differently?:

Be more agressive. Swim harder out.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Still a slow transition. Wasted time deciding whether or not I would wear my singlet and when I decided I would wear it, I was a bit slow putting it on.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster out of the water. Again! Reconsider clothing.
Bike
  • 15m 36s
  • 8 kms
  • 30.77 km/hr
Comments:

Aim was to average over 26km per hour, according to my bike 'puter I average 29km/hr.
What would you do differently?:

Could aim to push harder, aim for 30km/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

A bit slow getting the runners on as I lost the bandage for the blister. Put hat and glasses on as I ran out of the compund.
Run
  • 12m 2s
  • 2 kms
  • 06m 01s  min/km
Comments:

Pretty close to 6 min kms, happy enough with this, should be able to get it down further - perhaps 5.50 min kms? Felt as though my first km was slower than the last. Breathing was ok.
What would you do differently?:

Train train train for the run
Post race
Warm down:

Didn't lose my brekky like the girl who finished just in front of me!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Much happier with this performance, but still a long way to go. Need to get the nerves under wrap, be more confident in the swim and run harder!

Event comments:

The rain held off, joy!

What a great race! Hey, don't worry about those "nerves"...we all get that the night before and right up until the race starts. Funny, for me they seem to disappear the second I start swimming. But you did good, that's a really respectable bike pace especially.

Hey Casie,
Well done on another race! Your bike pace is GREAT! Well done!
Loved your race report, felt like I was there with you (alas I missed the Gatorade race due to some family stuff...)
Just remember it is you against you so there is no need to be nervous- just race your your own race (I tell myself this every time and still get nervous - I keep trying though!).
Good Luck in the next race.

Hey M,

Like you, I keep telling myself that I'm only racing against my own times, and as Max says the nerves do disappear as soon as I start swimming...I know there's no need to be nervous, it seems to be a new thing this season though. Never mind

I think I did better this race because I had some goals, I can't believe what a difference it makes when you have something to aim for rather than 'just' finishing!!

Looks like your training is coming along nicely, can't wait to read your Olympic Tri report!!!

Hope all is ok with the family...

Hi Casie,

Well done for race 2.

I'm racing this weekend and am nervous already (it's only Tuesday). I would prefer to be nervous thinking about the race and what I want to achieve rather then being relaxed and possibly forgetting something, so I see nerves as a good thing (if that makes sense?).

We are heading for 36 degrees today in Brissie so send those black clouds north.

All the best for the rest of your season.

Paul
