Subject: Minneapolis Pool/Health Club Downtown??
Hey Minnesotans.....I'm gonna be in Minneapolis end of next week and looking for a decent health clubs / pool recommendation near where I'll be staying; namely the Depot, which says it's at 225 3rd Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55401 http://www.thedepotminneapolis.com/)

I figured on asking here for a more reliable response -- sometimes hotel staff are clueless as to what "insane" (as my husband affectionately calls me )folks like myself are looking for.

Well, depends on how you define "decent" of course...

I belong to the Lifetime Fitness location called Minneapolis Athletic Club.  I don't know if they offer a day pass or not, though.  There are two locations:

Minneapolis Athletic Club on 6th St/2nd Ave S (closest to you): http://www.mltac.com
Front desk: 612.752.7000.  They have a 60 foot pool (44 laps to a mile), decent equipment but they don't have a real track.   This is my club and I run regularly around downtown and then use the club primarly for shower and pool.

There's a lower level of Lifetime downtown in the Target Center on 6th Street and 1st Avenue NORTH (5 blocks "West" of the other club):

Much nicer pool and bigger facility, although much more crowded.  Might be more accessible by day pass.

Are you most interested in the pool part of it?  If so, then it's worth the walk to the Target Center.  But definitely call first to ask about getting in.
