Well, the sweetener in most of them is a neurotoxin. Yum!

I LOVE Mt. Dew but haven't had a non-diet soda in longer then I can remember...probably about a year. I usually have 1 soda (diet) a day...Mt' Dew, Cherry Coke, Vanilla Coke, Dr. Pepper are my choices. I personally don't think that a sode even non-diet is such a bad thing if you generally eat a balanced healthy diet. There is room for anything you want to eat in moderation as long as overall it doesn't get out of hand. Sure sugar is the devil (sarcastic) and artificail sweetners probably aren't the best for you...but you can also die from drinking too much water...so have a Coke and a smile!

Subject: If you're referring to NutraSweet...

Excerpt from the American Council on Science and Health:

"In fact, aspartame, known as "NutraSweet" and "Equal," is safe. Aspartame is one of the most thoroughly tested substances in the U.S. food supply. Numerous authorities, including the Food and Drug Administration, the Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives of the FAO/WHO, the European Community, and the American Medical Association have concluded that aspartame is a safe product, except in the rare cases of phenylketonuria. For more information on aspartame, please refer to ACSH's peer-reviewed booklet Low Calorie Sweeteners. And beware of Internet health hoaxes."

Wholeheartedly agree with Joel. Everything in moderation, there are certainly worse things out there than diet sodas.

Well, after looking around even more, it does look like I was fooled by this one. It is pretty wild though, to type 'aspartame' into google and watch thousands of  anti-aspartame websites pop up. You have to be VERY specific to find any information to dispute the claim.....

Double post, but, as you're aware, the internet is full of mis-information.

Snopes.com is actually where I looked for more info to corroborate your piece of evidence. ;-) I generally only really believe things like that if I see them on a University website (I don't really trust the FDA all that much).... Don't know where I first heard that that I believed it. *shrug*

The caffeine is still a problem. Your body revs up, then crashes, which is hard on it. It also makes you lose water.

I've heard mixed things about carbonation. All I know is I've had a lot less stomach problems since I cut out soda.

In the Academy they made us give up Cokes (pops, soft drinks, sodas, et al) stating the carbonation effects breathing. I noticed that I did breath easier when I quit drinking them...of course I started again after the academy; a guy has to have some vices.

Not all diet sodas have caffeine.
