Subject: Hello Everyone!

Hi everyone,

I was told we have a MI side of things, so I'm just duplicating my hello post from the introduction forum, to the MI forum.

Just signed up last night. I attempted a tri last year without much success (Open water swim got me), have completed a few relays. I am from Shelby Township, some of you already know my wife kellc09, really she's my inspiration.

I've decided to start a whole new life (almost literally).

I've watched Kellie train for her Ironman, train very very hard I should say, and Im sick of being over weight, Im sick of smoking, Im sick of sitting idle. She is an absolute animal, and has really inspired me to get my butt in gear.

I had my last cigarette on Friday night, Im starting a diet today. My goal is to go from 240 lbs, where I stand as of 4 minutes ago, to 210 lbs, by the time we go to Lake Placid for Ironman.

With the whole open water swim thing, my races will consist of Du's only this year. I've had my bike for over a year now, and can compete on a bike.

I've never been a big runner, as I tell people, growing up my idea of running was the 90ft, from home to first, first to second, second to third, third to home. I think any distance is more of a mental thing for me opposed to a physical (once I get into a better overall health).

I think that's it, if you have any questions or comments just ask....

Welcome to BT! You'll find a lot of great support here. Check the forum for the mentor programs that just started, you'll find friends to help motivate you and keep you on track.

There are a few of us here in Mid-Michigan that will be competing at the Hawk Island Tri on June 1st. If you don't feel ready to race, you could come to the race and meet up with us. Watch the Hawk Island Tri thread.

Again, welcome!

Welcome and a HUGE congrats on the lifestle change.  i am right there with you - quit smoking, loosing weight - stopped being idle.

You will find TONS of support here - as you already know from Kellie!

I live and train down in farmington Hills area - but as far as OWS goies, my tri club does OWS every Saturday AM out at Island lake Rec (across from kennsington) - so there are a lot of people out there getting in some decent swims.  I know that it is a  hike - but worth the trip!

Hey, Ron, I mighta yelled at you as we cruised past this weekend at stony. I'm sure I yelled at Kellie.

Welcome, and congratulations on some cool life decisions. Hopefully between Kellie's example and your motivation, coupled with a little BT support and the occasional full day riding circles at Stony, we'll look forward to good things.

And to counter your offer, just let us know what you need .re training support. There are plenty of aspiring runners from BT, bikers of every speed (although you've got a solid one to chase around already), and group swims that'll start up in June in the OWS. Seriously, most of us spend prolly 50% of our season doing our thing, and 50% helping others figure it out. Let the MI folks know what you need, you'll get the support.

Welcome, tri's are new to me. A little over a year ago I started walking and I just finished my 2nd marathon. Have lost 35lbs, and found things in me that I did not know where there. Any help you need can be found here, these folks are quite motivational. good luck and have fun with it.

I just started about 2 months ago, went from barely walking/jogging a mile to today doing 3 miles in 41 minutes. A big step for me. This place is full of very helpful people. I hope you have good journey to a healthy lifestyle. As any question and it should be answered very quickly. At least that has been my experience.
