So I've a toe nail that is about 95% off... hanging by a thread.  I also have a race this weekend.  I figure if there is no pain, I'll go for it and run the race, unless yall know of any reasons, medical or otherwise, that i shouldn't?

Tis what I thought.  Just wanted to make sure I didn't overlook something stupid.

just giving you a hard time

Can you get it completely off now?  I'd probably try to at least tape it up, although that may come off.  Hate to run into lots of pain during the race if it hurts coming all the way off.

If it's 95% off, take it off - clean it, wrap it up well, and race. Change the bandages after though, so the wound dries. You'll be fine. If it grows back, it grows back. If it doesn't, it doesn't. I know several athletes of varying kinds who are missing all or parts of toenails. Comes with the territory.

I should have it all off this evening.  Walking isn't as painful as it was a few days ago, so I should be good by Sat.

Make sure you keep it properly cared for in the meantime and during the race - no point in getting a massive infection.

When you do stuff that involves being on your feet like that, it's bound to happen I used to dance - dancers have some pretty funky, calloused feet as well, esp. en pointe ballerinas.

Dude, race, it's just a toenail...if it's a little "raw" just put some neosporin on it a few days before the race.  No matter what I do or change I have come to a very comfortable peace that two of my toes won't sport normal or any toenails for the duration of my racing years--which I hope to be multiple decades.  It hasn't slowed me down any...

I'm still missing a nail and have three others nice and blackish from a half mary in February. Didn't slow me down and I just pulled the nail off instead of having it flap around. No problems with that.

Yah... pulled the sucker off last night, between neosporin and a bandaide managed to ride in without too much pain, so we're on for sat!

I have a jpeg I found on the net of a necklace consisting of toenails from endurance races. Wife made it clear she did not want one.
