Subject: I'm new and I'm nervous

Hello all.

I have been lurking for awhile.  I am new here and new to triathlon.  I started my journey on 7/17/07 at 6' 6" and 328 pounds and 38% BF.  I started running in December.  I love to run.  It sucks.  It's a lot of work, but I love it.  I am currently 223 pounds and 19.7% BF.  I wanted to challenge myself and became interested in triathlon.  Well, here I sit 18 hours from my first sprint tri here in Cincinnati and I am nervous as hell.  I know I have not trained enough.  Definitely have not planned everything out well enough.  I actually just got my Javelin Verese on Monday.  I have been riding a cheap mountain bike.  It would be smart to ride the mtn bike tomorrow, but I can't just let her sit in the garage and not be my first.  Just "kinda" got used to clipless pedals this week.  Got the bruises to prove it.  Just recieved my Xterra wetsuit yesterday.  Have had no time to test it out.  Have only been "swimming" for about 2 months.  I am still not very good.  It is supposed to rain and the pool is going to be cold.  I am closing the bar tonight and need to get up at 5 am to get where I need to get.  But you know what, I do not care, for this will only make me stronger.  My only goals tomorrow are to have fun, finish, and not kill myself on my bike.  I guess #2 and #3 go hand in hand.  If I happen to learn a few things and meet some cool people along the way that will be a huge bonus.  Anyway, if you read this far just wish me luck.  Please?  It makes me feel better to vent with a bunch of strangers who probably know what I going through right now.  So thanks for listening.

Welcome to BT and to triathlons!  You've found a great community for support and encouragement. It is full of really cool people that come from all over the world.

Lots of us have even had the opportunity to meet some of our fellow BT'rs face to face, which is an even bigger bonus.

FWIW, I didn't even own a bike until a few weeks before my first tri.  I registered and then bought the bike.  I know lots of others that have similar stories.

We were all nervous before the first time, try and relax and most importantly Have Fun!  It sounds like you have the right attitude.

Good Luck! Be sure to let us know how it goes

Thanks everyone.  The race was awesome.  I talked to some cool people.  I definitely didn't kill myself on my bike.  I learned a whole lot.  I had a great time.  No results posted yet so I don't know how long it took.  I am going to take what I learned and make my next one better.  I need to start training more and be more focused and organized.

that is awesome to get the first one under your belt ... especially with new equipment and sleep deprivation!

I am most impressed with how much weight you've lost! Did you alter your diet or did you find that you lost weight because of the hard training you put in or was it a combination of both?

I started eating like a normal human.  I eliminated all of the junk and started eating healthy.  Six times a day.  Eating the right foods.  I went to the gym 7 days a week for 2 months straight.  Never missed.  Cardio or lifting.  Started running in December and loved it.  I moved up to tris next.  I am still young in my athletic career but loving it.  I have moved away from the heavier strength training and now lift for endurance twice a week in addition to the tri stuff I am doing.  It was a load of hard work.  But I feel awesome now.
