Subject: First Triathlon bikes Any ideas
I have been cycling for quite some time now and i think im ready to make the jump to time trials and maybe a triathlon. i have extensively been researching trying to find a good quality tri bike under three or under two grand and i can't decide carbon or aluminum ? any tri newbies out there with any advice for a first tri bike. As of right now its between cervelo p2 sl (dura ace) or kestrel talon tri (ultegra) and among others felt b12, trek equinox 7 or 9, cervelo p2c im mainly looking for something that is gonna be high in quality and performance but still not a million dollars

If you can spend 2500, get the Cervelo P2C carbon. Carbon is defintely worth it. I don't have a carbon, but I have a really light aluminum and I will have a carbon eventually. If you are gonna buy, the little extra for carbon is soooooooo worth it.

Felt also makes a great carbon tri bike. Don't know where you are in SC, but Carolina Tri in Greenville carries both Felt and Cervelo. You can try both. Buy the one that fits the best.

I found a great deal on a bike that is alot of bike for the money.

Take a look at the XLAB Avenger

http://www.xlab-usa.com/avenger.html

Rear Der - Shimano Dura Ace 10 Speed
Front Der - Shimano Ultegra 10 Speed
Head Set - Prolite Ampezzo Integrated
Brake Caliper - Xlab X150 Dual Caliper
Brake Lever - Cane Creek 200TT
Shifter Lever - Shimano Dura Ace 10 Speed
Cassette - Shimano Ultegra 11-23 10 Speed
Chain - Shimano Ultegra 10 Speed
Cranks - FSA SLK Carbon
Bottom Bracket - FSA Mega EXO
Handle Bar - Profile Carbon Cobra Wing
Aero Bar - Profile Carbon T2 Cobra
Stem - Profile H20
Tires - Vittoria Zaffiro

I was able to pick one up for about $2700, and I upgraded the wheelset to Mavic Cosmic Elites for about an extra $450.
