Subject: 30 Days of Bike

Since I've wasted a whole month's NetFlix's fee on the movie "30 Days of Night" sitting on the DVD player, I've used the title as a personal challenge for myself.

My challenge is : 30 Days of Bike

I needed to find a month that had both 30 days AND no reason for me to taper.  June, she's my gal.

This isn't a challenge in the traditional sense, as I don't foresee teams and rivalries here, but I'm looking forward to my own personal challenge and I gladly welcome anyone else to join in.

I'm setting the rules as simple as biking for at least 20 minutes every day for 30 straight days in the month of June.

Anyone want to join, feel free.

Awesome! okay, this is exactly what I need! I'm in the same boat where I don't have a race this month, so no need for tapering. I'm going to give it a shot, but I'll have to count stationary biking too since I have some work travel coming up.

Thanks for the great idea! Should be a fun month.

(So, is 30 Days of Night so good that you couldn't bear to send it back, or is it one of those that somehow gets to the top of the queue but once it arrives you keep putting off watching it? I have Snakes on a Plane here right now that's in the second category)

As for the movie - merely one of those "couldn't find 2 hours where I would stay awake and watch the whole movie" and "in the mood to watch a horror film" situations...

Welcome aboard.

Day 1 complete.

Day 4.  Purchased a new seat for the bike.  After new seat and re-adjusting the height on tonights long ride - made all the difference and may actually be able to go the full 30 days...

I'm finding after 8 days into this, I don't even notice the first 15 minutes on the bike.

Definitely a challenge to keep this going - but a nice trial by fire to get hardcore into bike training for the upcoming Tri season...

Just saw this thread, gooooooo Condorman! My guess is that everybody has a race this month so they're not participating. That or it's still winter in some parts and they're not in love with their trainer like you are!

Could have used that boost last night - flaked out on the bike ride (see my long list of reason excuses in my log).

But will being doing double bike duty (2 bike workouts) one day this weekend to compensate.

You have my respect on this. With travel it would be impossible for me to do 30 straight of biking, but running is always a possibility!

Keep up the great work!

Thanks.  I've been meaning to try this for a while, finally found a month without any significant traveling as would be all that much more crazy to manage if I was juggling different time zones, airports, hotels, etc...

OK, follow-up post (for my own edification)...

That was pretty brutal.  It seemed to be never-ending.  I found myself starting to not like the bike after a while.  Which probably explains my big old lapse at the end of the month, missing 4 days in a row.  I had only missed one ride before that, but just hit a wall - a total exercise burn-out.

The good thing is that I shattered my monthly biking mile record and I've definitely put myself in a good position for the bike portions of my upcoming races.  The downside is that my running totally suffered and I'm spending the next few weeks getting my running mileage back up.

All in all, a nice experience.  Painful to in the middle, but then again - it wouldn't be called a challange if it was easy.

Hats off to Elelen - who totally ROCKED this challange!

Here's my question: Did you ever end up watching 30 Days of Night throughout this whole challenge?!

condorman deserves MAJOR props for not only doing some kick-azz biking, but doing it all on a trainer (right?)!  That is some serious dedication.  Brutal doesn't even begin to describe it.

I'm very lucky to have really flexible work hours, and no real family responsibilities, and even with those advantages it was really tough to stick with it!  I ended up doing the minimum 20 minutes more than I'd like to admit.

Awesome challenge though; I also set a new record for biking for the month!  Looking forward to having a day off though.
