Subject: Signing up for first AZ tri's?????????????
After two surgeries and a lengthy rehab period, I'm ready to sign up for my first AZ tri's. I'm currently working on my base and will start an Oly plan in 3-5 weeks. Here are the races that I want to do before season end:

Splash n dash-September 13th
Nathan Tempe Triathlon-September 21st
Splash n dash- September 25th
SOMA QIM-October 26th

I've been searching around active.com but I'm a little confused about the process of registering for these races. Do I need to be an USAT member? I don't mind paying for it and you can't beat $10 off race registration. After I become an USAT member do I just sign up on active.com?

Ahhhh, I'm so excited and nervous at the same time! I've been hitting the base training hard and I almost averaged 19mph on my ride today! I'm anxious to learn as much as I can before my first race.

Please let me know the least confusing method of registering for these tri's would be.

Thanks for the input and I look forward to meeting you guys on some group S/B/R workouts soon!

Mirg this is FANTASTIC!!!! I remember you talking about having your surgery and now you are healed WAHOO! Sounds like an awesome ride today! That sounds like a GREAT race schedule.

SO - USAT number. Go ahead and sign up, if you are not given a USAT number go ahead and enter 00000's in the box on active.com that way you still get your $10 off. They will ask for your number at the tri anyway so if you do not put it in it doesn't matter (I never do because I never seem to have it handy when I register). I do ALL my registering on Active. I know some people prefer to mail in to save the active fees, but I am too lazy.

Does that answer your question? Hope to meet you soon! We'll have to have a get together to welcome all the newbies or "back to training" peeps!

Thanks for the advice! I'm so excited but nervous about setting up transition and making sure I've got everything I need come race time. Good news is that I've got a lot of time to learn/practice. The bad news is I start grad school in August which means I'll get to become good friends with 4am

I'll get registered for everything tomorrow after my swim!

I'll probably try and make a group ride next Sunday. I've been S/B/R 3 times a week and I'm at the point where I need to start adding a longer bike ride on the weekends. Sunday's would be perfect for that.

I'll keep checking the ESCKTC threads.

$239 dollars in registration fees and I've pulled the trigger! I signed up for all four races and I pushed the second SnD to October 4th.

You are in and on the way! - keep in mind that in addition to the Sunday bike rides, OWS is often on Thursday evenings at Saguaro lake.  There is even a couple of groups that do Canyon lake and Lake Pleasant.  I mention this as pool swimming is good, but nothing prepares you for the tri season like an Open Water Swim both in and out of wetsuits.  Not the same taste as Tempe Town lake (your race lake), but on the plus side - ussually cleaner!

I don't have a wet suit yet but I'd like to get one for the sprint and the QM if they're going to be wet suit legal.

I for sure will plan on making several OWS before the tri's. I'm using the splash n dash races as a way to get a little bit more time in TTL before the tri's. I'm going to treat the sprint like a hard training day but I still want to do well.

I'm planning on next week's group ride and I'll probably hold off on an OWS for a couple more weeks until I have a bit more of a base built up.

Hey Mirg....are you riding with us this Sunday???

Just saw your message now @ 10pm. I won't be there tomorrow as I'm taking Sunday as a rest day and I just realized that I'll be out of town next Sunday for the 4th of July weekend. I guess I'll make my debut in two weeks.

I think they cut off the ability to have your avatar a linked picture.  You have to actually upload one. So maybe that's what happened.

Chop, chop on that.
