Pre-race routine:

Got a good nights sleep. I didn't wake before my alarm so it was a little startling. It can't be that time already. Not as nervous as previous races so got the english muffin with vegemite down easy. Erin met me at my place and we rode down together. Located the TriBal tent, dumped our stuff and headed to the water.
Event warmup:

The grass was freezing and my feet were quite cold as we got to the beach. Jumped in, nice, clear and most importantly flat, not cold at all. Did a bit of a swim and sussed out depths. Got out and met up with some other TriBal crew. The start was delayed about 30 mins so we chatted while getting cold.
Swim
  • 09m 3s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

Porpoised out for the first time, quiet useful in saving breaths really!
Until we rounded the bouy it was a little congested then it cleared. I stuck with a girl who I swam side by side with across the back. Rouding the second bouy was a little heated, people trying to swim over each other etc. Tried to pick it up on the way in. Was really happy with my breathing and the fact that I did not drink the sea water.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time in open water to build strength, speed and confidence.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Aim for T1 was to get into clipless pedals while attached to bike! Given that my feet were numb I was a bit slow to get going ie pedalling, but had no issues getting my feet in the shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Work on transitioning again (will do Monday morning). Should try baby oil on legs to make getting wetsuit off easier.
Bike
  • 24m 49s
  • 10 kms
  • 24.18 km/hr
Comments:

Tried to avg 30km/hr but I just missed it! I think I was still concentrating on my swim and how bad I thought it was. I was convinced I'd come out last from my wave. Knew I had to make up for my uncompetitive run that was coming up, so rode comfortable to hard in order to pass a few people. Wasn't passed by too many at all.
What would you do differently?:

Turn where we were meant to turn. There was no-one to direct. Tried to wiggle toes to get feeling back into them to no avail. Wiggle more! Drink more on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Took feet out of bike just before turning into dismount. Good timing. Had to almost fully stop bike to dismount. So much easier running into T2 with bike shoes left on bike!!
Run
  • 23m 49s
  • 4 kms
  • 05m 57s  min/km
Comments:

Feeling in feet came back during run. Felt fine, breathing was good. Started pretty slowly and had a lot, a LOT of people pass me. I passed no one. There wasa drink station at the turn around point. Could have used one much earlier. Picked up the pace on the last 2 km and finished strong. Or strong for me!
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

My boy came to watch for the first time ever. It was good to see him at the finish. Drank some Endurox and ate a muffin. Did a tiny bit of stretching and caught up with others who had done the tri.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of confidence in my ability. Talent!

Event comments:

My aim was to finish in 56 min, or under an hour which I did. This race is almost double the distance in the swim and run compared to all the other races I've done. Still plenty of work ahead, running particularly.

Wow!! two races in two weeks, your super keen.

Well done for achieving your goal of finishing under an hour, all that training is obviously paying off.

Good luck for your next race.
