I agree 100%. I have Tivo'd every night so far. I can't believe how much I am interested in this and can't wait for the Olympics.

Yeah, it's way more interesting to watch a sport like swimming or cycling when you actually know a bit about it. My sis swam competitively and I've been to swim meets and they were BORING. But we always watched the swimmers during the Olympics, which was better. Now, I like it even more - I'm not even good, but at least I have a better appreciation for it.

Those pics are fabulous.  And Dara Torres is the BOMB.  But then again maybe we'd all look like that if we had 2 full time massage therapist, a physical therapist, 2 coaches, personal chef, and full time nanny.

And also the genetic anomaly that causes bodies like that. I mean, not everyone can look that way, no matter how hard they try and how much money they spend. Le sigh...

Notice the "exhaling bubbles" when swimmers' faces are under water? And the open mouths?

This confirms that a swimmer should not hold his/her breath.  If I remember correctly there was a discussion about "breathing under water" not long ago.

flmonkey_gbp - 2008-07-03 6:10 AM Really cool photogs.  Thanks for sharing.  How did he take the underwater pictures?

Most likely a regular Digital SLR in an underwater housing.  I have been watching every night and haven't seen any scuba bubbles, and they sure as hell aren't letting people free dive under them.  But someone is down there

I would guess a high-res camera mounted to the bottom in a housing or even embedded in the bottom of the pool which is operated remotely.

BTW, didn't the last olympics actually have one that followed them down the pool, on a track, under water?  For some reason, I thought I remembered that.
