ChicagoMan65 - 2008-07-08 1:34 PM OK Folks, everyone is in. We start tomorrow. Weigh ins will be Wednesdays. I will make a real basic spreadsheet and save it in the btchallenge docs file so we can track our weight. I am not a spreadsheet guy, so if someone out there is and can tweak it to do running totals of weigt loss, percent changes, whatever, please do so. The spreadsheet is called 14in12 and can be found on google via the btchallenge login and challengeforum password. Good luck everyone, lets keep this a lively challenge. 12 weeks is a long time and 14 pounds is a good chunk of weight. The only way we can do this is by keeping on each other, so lets stay vocal here......

I will play around with the spreadsheet this afternoon and see what I can do to it.

Hey guys,
I had some free time so I played around with the spreadsheet a bit. I'm still new here so I didnt want to radically change it without some of your guys feedback. If you click on sheet 2 at the bottom left side of the page after you open it you can see what I did. If you guys like it I'll transfer the weights over and make it the main page. All you have to enter is your weight. Everything in yellow will fill in automatically as your weekly weights are entered. Hope you guys like!

Alright folks....week one weigh in is a bit of a disaster for me---163.8, which is almost 2lbs up from a week ago. What can you say other than many many July 4 festivities in there.....

To all, thanks for tweaking the sheet. Anyone want to step up to be Sheetmeister?

I think all the new folks are in. Dont worry bout being "late" or whatever....its progress not perfection. If youre new, weigh in, log in and come along. Who knows where the bus is going.

So now lets tell a little bit bout selves, shall we?

I am male, 42, married 2 kids in Chicago. Ex smoker, ex drinker, started running about 6 years ago. Started riding about 4 yrs ago. Started swimming last year. Was going to do a tri last summer, but life got in the way, training fell off, etc. and weight went UP UP UP. January 1 I was about 190. I jumpstarted my training, joined into the 25 lbs in 25 weeks challenge and lost a ton. I want to continue losing weight, but its getting harder to drop whats left. Ideally I would like to get to about 150.

I am registered for 2 Oly distance races in August. Am confident I can do the distances individually, but a little leery of doing them back to back to back.

The idea for losing a "stone" came from a Scot on the boards. Its a cool concept.

I figure I can follow suit and give a little background on me. I am 23 and just finished school last. I was in decent shape in high school but wasnt ever in great shape. Once college started, things went downhill in a hurry. Drinking beer 4 nights and week and too much partying is not conducive to getting fit. I picked up about 40 pounds over the course of the 5 years so here I am working on taking those off. 10 down, about 30 more to go.

I went ahead and switched around the spreadsheet. I dont mind keeping it organized, but it should pretty much take care of itself. Everything is automated on it. IF there is anything else you would like to have added or removed just let me know. I suppose 5 years of engineering classes should be usefule for something at least.

Hi Everyone!  I'm new to the tri world and sort of new to athletics altogether.  I was the musical child and so I was never really encouraged to do anything physical.  I recently turned 38 and read the following quote, ""Whenever you do some form of physical exercise, when you demand the maximum from your body, the mind gains a strange spiritual strength" I've always enjoyed swimming and cycling and so shortly after my birthday - I decided to do a tri.  My first mini-sprint is scheduled for July 20th.  I *just* started telling a couple of close friends.  For some reason I kept it a secret.  ??  Anyway - I have a 5 year old child and feel good about my body but there's always room for improvement.  I got down to 136 but then went up again in the last week or two and weighed in this morning at 139  I don't know what my goal is but I'd like my core to be more toned so I'm thinking 14 is a good goal.  Good luck to everyone!  Hope this works

Okay I'm a knob - but I can't find any spreadsheet ??

I'm 25 and just started doing Tri's last summer with a few sprints. I have 2 Olympic distances in September/October and next year I plan to do HIM and then 2010 I'm shooting for the Full IM. Like Chicagoman, I'm an ex-smoker, ex-drinker, ex-party gal. I yo-yo with my weight because I LOVE LOVE food and for some reason when I train, I feel like I can eat anything. I'm only 5' 2" so 135.5 is a high weight for me. I'd love to maintain around 120-125 because I feel so much better on the run and bike when I'm at that weight.

KIMMAX you have to go to www.docs.google.com and then login with then where it says email and password:
email = btchallenge
password = challengeforum

Then you'll see the 14 pounds in 12 weeks Challenge spreadsheet.
Also I love the quote you shared.

Hi all, I haven't had a chance to weigh in yet due to work issues (I don't own a scale at home) but I'll get my weight in there as soon as possible.  And I'll post more again soon, too...

Hey all,

I've got a working scale now. I'm at 192.6 and 23.4% BF.

I, like a few others, was a full time partier, and I never really cared from myself. I pulled myself out of that in my late 20's, but then I had 2 kids (3 yr and 1 yr now), started my own business, and fell back into my old habits of not taking care of myself. Now, I just turned 35 yesterday, and figured there's no time like the present to get going. As for training, I'm currently focusing on training for the Portland Marathon which is in October, and I will definitely need the support and accountability of this group to help me stick with my training and weight loss goals.

Cheers all.

Hey everyone...I'm a day late, but certainly not a pound short! I also don't own a scale at home so I'll get you my weigh in ASAP – pretty sure I'm around 150lbs though.

A little about me - I've never done a weight loss challenge before so please be patient with me. I'm 29 and married to a wonderful husband who loves being active (hiking, biking, climbing, squash, etc) so we are lucky to get to train together a lot. We just finished the BC Bike race (7 day staged mountain bike race from Victoria to Whistler - 550km) and I'm looking to get back to tri's...namely another 1/2 Ironman. Needless to say I'm in great biking shape, but my running and swimming have been neglected (as in NONE) for about 9 months!!!

I'm hoping to get down to about 135 lbs so this challenge will be perfect! I look forward to being a part of this challenge and having you all to keep me accountable!!!!

Aloha all and well done to every one loging their weights. I will trawl through the posts and I will try to catch up and annoy you all Laughing.

I am usuing the nutrition logs again and though I think the tendancy is to slightly under estimate intake it is useful to use them. Main thing is it just makes you a bit more accountable if you know you are logging it. Makes you think twice before you take in nutrition. - Well works for me any way when I log it. SOOOoooo if you see me not logging it feel free to hassle me.. please.

I have ben a bit under the weather the last couple of days but I am away for the weekend and will come back with a loss I am sure. Hope you all are feeling the benefit of the group dynamic and will all leave me in the dust. Good luck team mates.

Oh some info on me?.... Well male 45 from Dalgety Bay in Scotland. When I was younger I played rugby to a high level and then started to run after an injury. Got to a 76 min half mary when I was 21 - self trained but never kept it up for more than 8 months at a stretch and gave up really wen I got hassle after winning a local 4 mile road race in Edinburgh. Only time I ever wo a race.

Well one vacation in Hawai'i I was siting on a beach and watching whales breach off shore and Isaid to myself 'One day I am going to do the Ironman in Hawai'i'. Well I didn't realy realise what that might entail (that was 20 years ago). Well I recently got permision to persue this goal from my family and rather overweight and not having exercised much for many years I started to train. I trained up for the Disney half in Jan 07 and managed that...just. Not the 6 min miles I used to do. Actually happy with the 3 hrs plus I did but there you go. Then I got a bad hip injury and took me many monthes to get back to it. I got weight from about 280 down to 196 and then injury struck at christmas and a family cruise in Hawai'i (Love Kona) and got started again about 2 months ago. My weight is about 233 just now and at 5' 9 should be in the 160 - 170 range I guess at least so still a bit to do.

I have at last manages to become a triathlete with a 127 min Sprint and hoping to be able to do an oly distance in winter and start on a half IM programme for a half IM next September and hoping to do UK IM in 2010.

I will have a weight for you tomorrow (Saturday).

I realize that as a group it's to be a Wednesday weigh in, but I only weigh myself 1x per week, and that's on Saturdays.  I haven't for the past couple weeks due to tris, so I don't have  a current weight, and the scales at my new gym are not digital, and basically suck.  So, I will wait until I weigh in tomorrow at Weight Watchers for an official report.  If this is a problem, please let me know.  I'm not doing it to gain more time on the challenge or anything...I'll try to do the last weigh in on the last Wednesday.  But I don't own a scale and I don't plan on buying one until I've hit my goal weight.

Thanks

Days of the week are arbitrary. Do what you can, when you can. The idea is to weigh in, log in and drop weight.

I only chose Wedsnesday since that's the weighin day for the last challenge I was in and am used to it.

When YOU do it, is your thing. Just do it!!!!

Thanks.

I have my weight...241.6.  I'm not happy about it.  3 weeks ago, I was down to 233, which was 95 lbs lost for me.  I've gained 8.6 lbs in 3 weeks.  Stress and crap have gotten in the way of my success and focus.  I hate it and I will make it gone.  I want to get back down to 233, and I want to hit that damn elusive 100 lbs mark, which for me, is 228lbs.

hey Maggyruth,

Hang in there!!! You've lost an impressive amount of weight already and a few good meal choices and training choices, you'll get that 8lbs back off and be back on track.

I'm leaving today for a business trip in Canada. Hopefully it won't screw up my eating and training habits too much. Even though I can't bike, I'm hoping to get some great runs in and stay far away from the Poutine. I won't be able to weigh in until Thursday evening when I get home.

Apologies for the absence - I've been on holiday and v. v. bad so who knows what the weigh in will show on Thursday. I've added my last weight to the chart so we're off an running. It'd be great to be a stone lighter in twelve weeks especially as I have my last Tri of the season at that time.

A bit about me .... I'm 36, live in Scotland and am fairly new to Tri's I managed one last year and have done 2 so far this year. The last two have been greatly helped by my managing to loose 33lbs since the start of the year .... which is kind of what led to this challenge. I've struggled with weight loss since I was a teenager and never managed to keep the weight off but I somehow seem to be a heck of a lot more dedicated this time. I am still a slow fat triathlete but getting faster all the time.

In other things I'm about to start a new job so this will be an additional challenge as well as the training and am going to get married next year so I have even more reason to loose weight. I look forward to travelling through this journey with you and enjoying the spirit and hopefully results of the challenge. It's good to be back!

Well I'm happy to report that I stayed the same!  its bitter sweet but I thought I'd gone to hell when I got on the scale over the weekend and saw 3 additional pounds...

It's all about getting into a rhythm and sticking to the program.  Keep up the good fight against those cravings!!
