Total Time = 5h 52m
Overall Rank = /

Age Group Rank = 0/
Event warmup:

15 min run
15 min bike
10 swim

Had good warmup, felt ready for race
Swim
  • 37m 14s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Hard to get a good rhythm going w turns and shallow bar on 3rd leg. Water temp was good, weather great.
What would you do differently?:

Overall, had a good swim. Perhaps longer swim warmup to better acclimate to water
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Came out of swim same time as Bob Baker. Had a good T1 but Bob blew threw T1 and got a good 20 - 30 s lead.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing much - setup and execution was pretty tight
Bike
  • 3h 04m
  • 56 miles
  • 18.26 mile/hr
Comments:

First lap went good - kept pace at or just below 20mph. During 2nd lap back started aching and had to situp frequently to relieve pain. Became difficult to stay in tuck and concentrate.

Nutrition on bike was 1/2 peanut butter sandwich, health bar, and gu. Drink was accelerade.
What would you do differently?:

Get a bike that fits better. Do more longer bike rides.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Went very well - got out quickly and legs felt good
Run
  • 2h 10m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Got out good and started at 8mpm pace for first 2 miles then slowed down. Sun came out miles 5-10 and really struggled. Also, stomach became very queasy likely because of gu gels taken. Last 3 miles picked up pace and finished strong.
What would you do differently?:

Eliminate/reduce gu gels. Keep doing speed work - felt I could have kept up pace with better conditioning.
Post race
Warm down:

Washed in lake and drank beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike was limited to due to aches, run due to stomach pains (although was able to run them) and conditioning.

Event comments:

Awesome race, low key, good support, great fun.
