  • 547 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was nervous the whole time and couldn't get out of the mass of people or settle into a comfortable stroke. I doggy paddled more than swam but I stayed pretty well on course. I felt like I couldn't catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

more practice in crowds, try to get out of the crowd and settle into a stroke
Transition 1
  • 03m 17s
Bike
  • 54m 43s
  • 12 miles
  • 13.16 mile/hr
Comments:

I went out too hard. I pushed myself hard and then died out so I never settled into a comfortable pace.
Transition 2

Run

Comments:

I didn't feel like I was moving very fast and I probably could have pushed myself harder.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

My legs were tired as soon as I started the bike from the workout the day before. It was my first race so I was afraid of doing something wrong.

Event comments:

This was a good first race because it was small and well organized. The people were friendly and I didn't feel a lot of pressure or feel like I was being judged. There were definitely people of all abilities there. The course was harder than I expected.

Congratulations on finishing your first race! The consensus is that there should have been at least two women's waves, with at least a little more time between waves, too. I talked with a number of experienced swimmers, veteran triathletes all, and they also said that it was pretty much impossible to get into a swimming rhythm.

Rest assured that most races are at least a little better organized, with things like water available, even. Hope you enjoyed it, and good luck on your next one.

I'm right there with Bob... congrats on your first Tri... and I'm ecstatic to see so many BTers were in this race. Wish I had had the chance to meet more of them.
