I did my first team tri last year and I'm really on a kick to do my own events. Missed the Got Energy Tri in WI because Iowa flooded and part of our town was evacuated the night before. SO, I'm looking for another event, maybe for fall.

Needing good training tips on hills and biking, and I'm enjoying my pool time this year, doing my firsrt 3000 yards a few weekends ago, ever. Felt great.

Looking to get to know everyone.
Have a great day!

Elly

Hi Elly - welcome.  What distance Tri were you looking to do for your first event?  We are somewhat limited in our tri's in this state after September, but there are some good possibilities up until then.

Welcome.  I grew up just south of you in Dubuque.  We used to run at the blue track (drawing a blank on the name of the college) all the time in high school track and cross country meets.

I've found this place a great resource and a lot of fun, as I finished my first Triathlon just last weekend.

Take care.

-Tim

Welcome, Elly!

(You put Iowa in your thread name and all the freaks will come out....sorry Tim...)

I'm a Hawkeye at heart, but haven't lived in Iowa since the mid-90s.

I love Decorah though - we went up for Nordic Fest a bunch of times...and my college roommate was from there. (Kan du glemme gamle norge, and all that.)

Can't help you out with any IA tri information, but the site is awesome. Glad you're here.

Welcome to BT! If you feel like you're pretty much ready for a race there's a sprint in DeWitt, IA a week from Saturday (August 2) it's 500m, 15mi, 5k or something along those lines. Here's a link to the signup sheet: http://www.topshelfraceproductions.com/crossroadstri.html

ETA: One of these days I'm going to figure out how to embed links.

Welcome to BT!  You'll find that a few of us Iowa people are quite loud active on BT.  If you're looking for a race this fall, you can shoot me a PM, I might be able to help you find something that suits your needs.

Thanks guys! This is awesome. I've been spending time out here today and I think I'm getting the hang of the site. I really just need a sprint right now. My goal would be an olympic or IM in Hawaii...I know, I'm setting my life goals high, but I'm just barely in my 30's so I think I can conquer. I'm coming off the couch basically.

Lost 27 pounds this year so far and am starting to love the new bod. Will be looking to train to lose and love it at the same time. I think there's one the last weekend in September somewhere in central IA that I'm going to aim for? Iowa City? Does that sound right? I need to look at my info again. Headed on a biking vacation out west August 1 - 11, so tracking will be challenging during that time, unless our campgrounds have WIFI. Cheers!! :-)

Thanks for being so open arms...and hey. There's nothing wrong with being a die hard from IA. Freak? Not sure aboutr that, but if that's what it takes to get'r done. I'm in!

LAter all!
