I'm 6 wks out from IM MOO. THis is supposed to be the final big 3 weeks before the taper and here I am sitting at the computer killing time. I was not feeling fabulous yesterday, but chalked it up to being tired. I had a HIM on the 20th and a sprint on the 27th. Did my bike anyway.
This morning couldn't get to the pool because of tummy trouble. Now, I'm running a very slight fever, so I guess I've got a bit of a bug. Don't feel horribly sick, but not myself.
I decided to take today off (not like I could get anything done since I have to dash to the bathroom every so often) and rest. This is my first IM so I'm a little freaked at being sick right now. Should I just rest until I'm better and resume training. Just wait until the fever is gone and try to get some in? I'm afraid if I push now I'll just wear myself out and get really sick. I don't have a coach so you all are the only people I can ask.

Yes - rest is the best thing for you. I know it sucks but you have plenty of time. Where are you at with your key workouts in terms of run and bike distances?

I got a horrible stomach virus during my final week of peak training for IM CDA this year and even though it killed me to take the whole week off I did and was able to eeek out a PR on a 1/2 marathon the following weekend.

Rest, drink fluids, watch some daytime TV and get yourself healthy!

I had been doing good with my training. Actually, I was ahead of schedule because I took a 20 week program and made it into 24 and built in a mini taper and recovery for my HIM. I've already done 2 century rides. (6 hours) and a 2hr 20 min run (15 miles) Was scheduled to do a 2 1/2 hour run this Sunday, but since I had a Sprint race I planned to do a 2 hour run after. Due to knee issues ended up doing a walk/run totaling about 14 miles (including the 3.1 from the sprint).
I felt really good after my HIM, but I know the IM is a totally different animal.

I'm not much of a sit around person, so since I'm not deathly sick its hard for me to take it easy, but I will.

REST!!!!! You will not (repeat after me) You will not lose any fitness by taking some time off to recover, actually you may even be stronger after you rest. .

I never or rarely get sick and this year training for CDA I got sick twice for 4 days at a time. . it killed me at the time, but I rested. Then the Friday night before CDA I had major GI issues and did a PR on race day.

Your body will recover and respond with rest. .. I know it sucks mentally, but physically it is what you need.

Rest brother!!!!! Also go to see the doctor!!!!! I just did IMLP and with 5 weeks out I got a nasty stomach virus, after a 18 hour week of training. My body was telling me to slow down. The last thing i wanted to do at that point was slow down. I went to my doc and he prescribed me some antibiotics and I was back out within a few days. Your symptoms sound exactly like mine were. I kept getting worse til I went to the doc.
Good Luck

I took 4 days off early June for IMLP as I was mentally fried and my body was so tired. It was the perfect thing and it was better for me than training.

Rest when you are sick so you can get completely well..don't want this lingering on longer than it needs to.

You sound like you have a real good base and then some.  As everyone has mentioned, do the rest.  Your body will thank you.  Just get it out of your head, don't worry, don't overthink, and don't get mentally drained over it, and you'll be fine!

Thanks everyone. Feeling better, but still going to take it easy today, very light swim. I do have a tendency to over think and worry too much. So I just need to take a step back and relax. It's great to be be able to get feed back from people here.
