Has everyone made their race plans?

I have made the decision to where I am going to start the swim. Just back from the start, right of center. I've decided that I want to go with a more aggresive possition for my first IM so I can take my lumps early on. My race plan is; aggresive swim, conservative to aggressive swim and a desparate attempt to finish the run...crawling has not been ruled out...10 days to go!!!! Crunch time is nearly upon us ladies and gentlemen!

I noticed in the Athlete's Guide that crawling is specifically listed as allowed on the run course. I hadn't thought to build it into my race plan. ... yet.

My wife laughed at that...it has to have been a problem if it is in the rules! "No form of locomotion other than running, walking or crawling is allowed" Too many people skipping, sashaying or galloping is suppose!

Its much easier being swam over than swimming through a mess of people. Always start a little aggressive - just not crazy - so you're being run over like a floating log.

good luck!!

This is the part that I am most stressed about.  I'm a strong (read not fast) swimmer, but I am not comfortable in the thick of things.  I know that this is going to be impossible to avoid.  I think that I will just take my time wading in.  Not sure if the right or left side of things would be better.  Any suggestions?

I started right in the middle of the thing. It was the best thing ever!! just watch for feet hitting you everywhere and elbows...a kick in the nuts is natures way of saying hello!

I dunno guys, I have done 2 IM's and finish in the top 15% of the swim (1:03 australia and 1:06 CDA) and have come to strongly believe that seeking clear water away from the thrash is by far the best. Keeping ones HR and anxiety level low while getting a good rhythm and glide really helps set up the bike. getting caught in the masses just tires you out and slows you down. So, don't eat the paste like everyone else. The extra yards you end up swimming is more than compensated by staying relaxed and getting into a good rhythm. My two cents

I always figure out where the bouys are and what side I want to breath on.. if the bouys are on the right, i'll breath on the right. and start way to the left of everyone

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06oBUhgp9RE&feature=related     I was up front by the rope and got swamped in the first 300 yards.  Freaked out.   Realized that unless I get my act together, no kayaker is going to get to you in time.       Turned out to be a decent swim.

What's the number of participants for this year 2008?

Personally I thought it was rougher out a few hundred yards into the swim... I think because the beach is so big everyone is spread out until the 1st few buoys.....  Just my opinion though....
