Subject: Moving from 5k to 10k?
So, next year I'll actually be old enough to enter Olys, and I decided I wanted to prove to myself that I would be able to do all the distances before October. So yesterday I jump on my bike and end up going for a 44k bike ride in 1:53... But, now I am facing the problem wondering how I'm going to be able to run 10k... I've never run anything over 5k, and have no clue how to go about  running 10k.  Does anyone have any tips for making the transition?

There's really not much to it but to run more, run longer, abiding by the 10% rule if you can.   Haven't looked at your logs, but should be no problem getting to 6 miles in the next 2 months

I found this when looking to train for a 10K-tips and an 8 week plan to get you through. but you could incorporate it into an Oly training plan

No problem I would expect!  Can you run 15 seconds slower per mile for longer?  Chances are you can go about twice as long at that pace!  Just the facts, but most people can.  It is not a linear effect!  It is more about pace than it is about distance  If you find you can't hold that pace, then ask and we can give you answers-most likely the answer will be longer distances at slower paces (endurance).

Run more miles.  Mostly easy.  Sometimes hard.

Run atleast three times a week.  Pick a day each week to run a Long Slow Distance (LSD)Run.  add a 1/2 - 1 mile each week.  you will be there in 4 to 6 weeks.

Take a look at the OLY training plans on BT.

I'm in the process of doing this right now.  Stared off with the Hal Higdon plan and kind of moved off to doing my own thing.  I just did my longest run - 5.5 miles on Saturday.  The key for me has been every week going a little farther on my long run and using the runs during the week to keep my base.  It's been a little crazy lately, but that approach has done well for me.  I have my first 10k in 3 weeks and I feel really confident about it.  I started the last week of June building up and it's mid August, so about 6ish weeks.  But because of weight and past knee injuries, I took my build up relatively slowly to keep myself healthy.

And then there's just the swim. Oh well.
