OMG! Just got a kettlebell and the Kettlebell Goddess DVD becuase I wanted to mix up my strength training a bit. I was bored with what I was doing. Did the upper body workout yesterday(Artemis workout)-wow! It was the most challenging strength routine I have ever done and in only 26 min.  Love it already and would so recommend it to anyone else. Not only are there the preplanned goddess workouts but its an interactive DVD where you can create your own. I'm new to kettlebells so I haven't got there yet. Going to try the lower body workout today. Anyone else use kettlebells? What do you like/don't like? How do you incorporate it into your tri training???

I have been using KB's for close to 5 years now. I use them during the summer & fall only outside.

Just be careful with the increase in weight. I can not stress it enough. Learn technique on lighter KB's and move up when you are comfortable with the movement.

There is a good jump in weight from one to another. 9, 18, 26, 35, 53, 70, 88 and I believe there is a now a 110.

My favorite KB exercise is the Turkish Get-Up.

Best of Luck

I got a 15 pounder-challenging but not overwhelming.

I'm a huge KB fan. I got my wife the Goddess DVD, but unfortunately she doesn't like it all that well because it's not "entertaining." I tell her "Do you want to be entertained or do you want to get strong?" She gives me a dirty look when I say that so I just let it go.

I've been experimenting with Kenneth Jay's VO2max protocol. Here's KJ's Web site: http://www.thedaneofpain.blogspot.com/

He has a few protocols that he's designed but the one I do is the 15:15. I actually do a simplified version where I do 15 seconds of snatches or swings (I do swings mostly) for as many reps as I can, then rest 15 seconds, then do it again. Keep going until you die. Just kidding. I've done 10 minutes with the 32 kg followed by 5 minutes with the 24. This is harder than it sounds. Lots harder. But it works. I did a Spinervals workout the other day having not ridden in quite some time, and although my legs were burning, I wasn't really breathing all that hard. I seriously think that this protocol can be used in place of endless amounts of slow running and riding to build an aerobic base. Obviously, we'll still need to run and bike and all, but I think this protocol offers a great shortcut to building some serious aerobic capacity. Then again, I'm an endurance sports heretic.

Cool, thanks for the info, I'll have to check it out.

Not entertaining?! I think I'm to focused on proper grip and technique (and not putting it through the wall) to worry about entertainment.

What can I say, Jenn, I tried to convert her but no luck. I agree that you need to focus with KBs, and you'll find that you'll need to focus even more once the KBs get heavier.
