Is anyone doing the 1/2 IM distance race on Sept. 13?  Has anyone raced it in the past?  Just wondering about the water temp (I wear a sleevless wetsuit).  Any info. would be helpful.

Train Safe.

Though I haven't done that race, I did one many years ago (Crystal Mountain Tri) that used the same lake, and I wore a sleeveless wetsuit. Yes, the lake is deep (thus the name), and spring fed, so there are going to be some really cold spots. But you should be fine.

I have heard Black Diamond can be pretty chilly given the date. Probably more so this year given our lousy summer. I agree that you should be just fine with the sleeveless wetsuit but I'd be prepared to add a layer on the bike to keep from getting chilled.

It is pretty chilly.  The hardest part of that is the morning air is cold.... You should be fine w/ your wetsuit.

Good luck!

gvey - 2008-08-31 9:53 PM Did it last year, it was a little cool, but you should be fine. Some woman passed me in the swim wearing just a bathing suit. Go figure.

Well I'm sure she was in a hurry to get out of the water

I'm doing the Oly on Sunday (my first Oly)...Please post up any useful information Saturday night, (if you can), like water temp, or how you did with a sleeveless.

Otherwise, have a great race!

I remember the water being freezing and not the 61 degrees they claimed last year.  I had a sleeveless suit on too. Brrrrr.

Update...

The water was fine... Around 64 degrees I think.  Not cold at all in a sleeveless.  I had a top 20 swim overall and finished 21 minutes under my goal.  I still suck at this running thing though.

I really liked this bike course and will plan to be back again.

Train safely.
