Is anyone planning on doing this Tri?

I'm probably gonna do it, but it's in the Ocean... And I don't have a wet suit yet. Does anyone know any places around the Victoria area to get ones... And also, approx. how much do they cost?

Also, I'm not really scared of OWS swims... And have grown up always by and in the water... But I've never trained in the ocean... Does anyone have any tips for this?

Try not to drink the water

Wetsuits I am not sure on...try fort street cycles and ask them. Or you could go online www.trigeeks.ca

Umm i think you are mistaken... The swim is in young lake, not the ocean...

I will be doing the sprint. last race of the season for me

Peninsula Runners on Shelbourne is the best place for wetsuits in the city right now ... I got mine there last year - excellent price and they really took the time to help me find the right fit.

The swim is not in the ocean, it is in Young lake. I did this race last year, lake is nice, not too cold or too warm, perfect wetsuit weather. Try Frontrunners downtown Victoria, I was in there last week and they had a bunch of wetsuits in the store again.

I'm headin to this Tri!

The lake is fine! I used to go there for Season Starter Swimming camps and we would swim 4-6km practices in there no problem, and right about this time of the year!

The previous suggestions are spot-on, Peninsula Runners and Frontrunners both are great, and the people at both are extremely helpful!

I'm super stoked for this tri, it will be my first real HIM (if I can finish it without bike difficulties)!!!
Hope to see you thereeeeee!

Oh man! It's in Young Lake!! Wooo... That's gonna be one nostalgic race for me! I went from Beavers to Scouts at that camp! Even more excited now!! (And happy it's not in the ocean!!!) Hope to see you guys there!

(And yes, I was a girl in scouts, on of 2 to be exact! Believe me, Scouts is way more fun that Brownies, or whatever it is.)

Just signed up as well, should be tough after Ironman Canada, but a good local race to end the season. Hope to see you guys all there.

Should be a fun one!

For my AG, it's going to be a slugfest with two of my buddies who are quite adept!
Quite the challenge, and will provide a good indicator of my fitness since it's only one of 3 tris I did this season

Well, how'd you guys do? I was in the top ten overall when I got destroyed by a car on the 3rd lap of the bike. Very pissed off right now. Possible wrist fracture and my bike is worse for the wear. Brutal. Otherwise it was a great day for a race. Hope you all had some better luck than I did.

Oh dude, that sucks! Hope you're not too bad, was the course not closed or was it just another case of idiot with a steering wheel? I really hope you are alright, I'm guessing you've been to the hospital already, curious for some details after you can type without too much pain!

Hey Chris, just a case of an idiot with a steering wheel, this lady passed me in her car, pulled over to the side of the road, then pulled a U-Turn right in fornt of me. I had nowhere to go, I was screwed. On the plus side, the RCMP were there and they charged her with reckless drving and gave me an ICBC claim number so if anything is wrong with my bike it will be covered. Good thing to. My Aero helmet is trashed, and my bike wasn't looking too good.

Wow!  Super sorry to hear about the crash.  That is totally bogus, and I'm super glad to hear you're ok.

No matter how good the traffic marshalling is, there's always a risk unfortunately.

My race didn't happen.

I contracted Viral Meningitis (confirmed on Monday) last week, and have been in very rough shape.  I'm still sick (headache/achy body/vertigo) and probably will be for the full 10-day duration.  I couldn't even go out to the race to watch since my Vertigo was so terrible (couldn't drive and my girlfriend cannot drive standard).  It was a VERY rough weekend

How was everyone elses race?
