Subject: HR Data Incomplete from Garmin Import

Whenever I import from my Garmin 301, it seems like the Run HR zone data is missing something.

Today's run in my blog is a good example.  It's a 1:05 run, and the lap data and HR summary ( avg, max ) is correct, but the 'HR Zones' is missing data.  The time in zones doesn't add up to the total time, and is missing all my data over zone 5a ( shows nothing in the 5b zone, despite HR clearly being there based on the lap HR averages ).

Is this user error with how I have HR zones defined?  Or something else?

It's highly unlikely that the time would add up to the total workout time as there's usually some time at the beginning of a workout below Zone 1. Your Min HR for today's workout is 81 and the bottom of your Zone 1 is 112, so those readings won't be included in the HR data.

Still, the total does seem odd.  The Max and Average data points for each lap are taken directly from the unit. The aggregate "time in zone" values are computed.

There's a jump between Zones 5a and 5b from 173 to 175. I'm wondering if that might have something to do with it. I'll take a look at the data you uploaded and see what's what.

I gave this a shot on my local machine with the workout data as it was pulled from the unit and saved in our db. The result is below. The times certainly look more reasonable. Changing the bottom of Zone 5b to 174 did have the effect of recording the 2 seconds in that zone. It didn't change the overall times, though. When I did the import with the bottom Zone 5b set as 175, the times still looked as they do here.

I've sent you a test account login to try this again with to see if the same thing happens. I'd like to see if we can pin down any data differences from when you did it vs. when I did it.

I had a "gap" in my HR zones in my Garmin that would cause this to happen when I would upload to training peaks.  It was just one number, but it really did make a difference!  Marma said he tested this though, so...weird.  But I've seen this before.  It is freaky....
