Subject: Trek Equinox TTX 9.0 or 9.5

I am looking at those two bikes and want to get one of them for next year. As far as I can see the biggest difference between those two are the carbon. One come with white carbon and one with black carbon(trek carbon's)

Also, the 9.0 comes with mainly 105 component and Dura Ace shifter. And the 9.5 comes with with Ultegra components and Dura-Ace shifters.

I was thinking that if I go with the 9.0 I would ask my LBS to switch the rear derailleur from 105 to Ultegra and put a brand new Ultegra cassette that I have here on it too. I would keep the brake and front derailleur on 105 for now.

What do you all think about those two bikes? Also, if anyone has a good idea of the difference between white and black carbon I would love to knowif it's worth the difference.

Thank you

Trek ranks their carbon frames as Red, Black & White.  The Red is the best, being lighter and stiffer, and white is the value range. Here for more info from the Trek website.

The differences between the 9.0 and 9.5 are components (105 vs ultegra), weight and wheels (Bontrager Select Aero vs Bontrager Race Lite Aero).

If the bank allows it then I would go for the 9.5, but the 9.0 is still a very nice bike.

Thank you for your answer.

I was thinking switching the wheels for Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL. I could have a pretty good deal on a pair of those.

Yeah, the wheels would be the first thing that I upgraded, which ever bike you choose.

I ride a 2008 ttx 9.0 and love it. the only thing I changed on the bike is I installed carbon aerobars and basebar. the 2009 colors might be something to look at as well. the 9.5 is snot green

I cant believe that they chose that color but hey, what do I know. the 9.0 is grey with blue accents, they also started putting combination white saddles that look sharp on the 09's.
but the nice thing about trek's triathalon bikes is that they are all made in the usa (even the aluminum equinox) thats something you just dont find with many other bike manufactures.

Yeah I was looking at the 2009 9.5 color and that's what made me change my mind about it to be honest

How is the feel of the bike on the road? I heard that the white carbon isn't as stiff at the black one. But I was wondering how much. Is it something you can feel or is it so small of a difference that there's no difference while riding it?

Thank you
