Finally, I saw a plane taking off and I knew the airport wasn't too far away.  And just after the airport, was the Energy lab and just after the Energy lab is Kona.  And in Kona is the pier.  And on the pier is the carpet.  The carpet leads to the transition area and, most importantly, I can get off this damn bike.

Thanks for a GREAT race report.  Epic.

Probably the best race report I have read.  You captured all that is Ironman in the above ... and what is an absolutely awesome accomplishment on your part.

You trained, you sweat, you toiled through all of those hours to earn the right to feel that sense of peace prior to the race - and the jubilation felt crossing the finish line, knowing that you are indeed an Ironman.

Congratulations, brother.

Fantastic, I mean EPIC, race report, Jonathan!!  I especially loved the description of your time in the Energy Lab - sounded like you experienced some very low moments during that stretch, but you stared into the abyss, it stared back...and it blinked...way to perservere and then thoroughly enjoy the final few miles!!

Congrats to Jamie and your beautiful girls for being an epic and integral part of this wonderful adventure.  And congrats again on an epic journey that culminated in an epic day in Kona.

Congratulations on a great great day!!! Epic race and race report!! The details and your ability to recall them for us is incredible.  Thank you for sharing!

I have checked in on your training once in a while since you posted on whether to go or not and have been impressed at the consistancy of your training.  The results of your training turned into an awesome race and you certainly deserve the title of IRONMAN!!!

Congratulations to your family as well.  As you well know, it takes their support and sacrifice to make it to the start line of an IM!

Congratulations on an epic feat!  You are an IRONMAN Jonathan Collins.  Incredible race report - felt like I was living the day with you.  My favorite parts are Forest Gump and you throwing out everything in your special needs bag except your flashlight.

I also want to say thanks to you and Ninja for sharing the entire week with us.  It is the closest I will ever get to being there.

I don't know if epic describes the magnitude of your accomplishment.  Way to go.  That is probably the best description of a race I have ever read.  Thank you.

Jonathan,

THANK YOU for the inspiring report, more like an essay on gutting it out (no pun intended for your poor stomach!

When I met you with Steve W. at the Concourse expo, I don't think you knew you were going to Kona.  I'm honored to know you, however briefly; your story makes even a baby triathlete like me feel the power of this sport.

Way to go!

Susan

Thanks for posting this ... it is truely inspirational.
Your story just re-iterates the reflection of Ironman (and triathlon in general) into life. Sure there will be ups and downs, tailwinds and vomiting in your case, but if have a goal and are determined to reach it, anything is possible.

Your race report gave me chills, great play-by-play of your day. You did an amazing job overcoming everything that was thrown at you and finishing the race with a smile (and a jump!). Congratulations!!

Fantastic race report. One the truly brings the reader onto the course. It's the challenges in racing that are the most frustrating, but they also become the most memorable as well. You faced your challenges, managed them well, and came out on top. I could almost feel what you were feeling when you talked of not wanting the race officials to see you in fear they would pull you off the course. That right there, is what it's all about. Ironman is title well earned. Congrats.

Florida? heh.
