Subject: Preparing for first tri

Ok just introducing myself.

I am planning on my first Tri next year with Team in Training.  I don't have it all set up yet but I am hoping to set up the San Fran "Escape from Alkatraz" race.

My background:  I have done a lot of mountaineering.  I have have done a lot of full day adventure races and a couple 24 hour races.  I have done a few Ultra Marathons.  I am also ex-military.

I do a lot of mountain biking and some kayaking and BJJ.

Endurance isn't new to me but Tris are.  I have a difficult road bike race coming up in less than 3 weeks.  Not sure why that is important.  But I guess it gives you an idea of who I am.

At the moment I can't swim, hence, why I never done a tri.  I guess I just have to learn.  I hope I can contribute as well as learn while here.

I learned about this site from Endurance Planet.  So there you have it.

Welcome to BT!

Team in Training is a great organization, good for you for getting involved.

As to the swimming, lots of us got involved with triathlon as adults and had to start from square one in the pool. Just give yourself plenty of time, get some lessons from someone who knows what they're doing and you'll be fine.

Good luck!

Hi there!  I just posted my intro thread too also stating I'm going with TNT to get started (Lavaman)  and help a very worthy cause.  Sounds like you're ahead on the bike, and I probably need to relearn swimming too to do it right!  Good luck!

Thanks, I'll need the work on the swimming.  I am hoping to do just enough that I am middle of the pack.   Having said that I haven't started training in the pool yet...
