Hey guys,

Just wondering what are some of your favorite routes to run in the winter in the NW suburbs.

I love running the trail that goes by the Botanic Garden all the way to Chicago, scenery is nice, lots of deer, helps keep your mind wondering about when you are trying to push yourself.  I try to vary my routes as much as possible without driving my car to a specific place, i live close to the Northbrook metra station which is close to some nice trails.  Let me know if you know of some other good ones.

Thank you for the input!

I am biased because I can get to the path right from my house - but the Poplar Creek Forest Preserve has a great 9 mile loop.

That is my primary trail too.  Aside from just the paved trail there are some good unpaved ones south of Lake ave that parallel it.  Well I guess it starts by the boat launch but past Lake it splits off a little and there are a few branches that are fun to run.  The Green Bay trail is also a great trail system.  It runs along the farthest east metra line (the one that stops near Ravinia).  It goes through some parking lots and can be hard to follow at times but it's pretty nice and not all paved.

Love Herrick Lake.  I have been running that trail and fishing that lake since I was a kid.

Oh, how I wish I lived in the NW Suburbs like most of you do. The closest forest preserve trail to me, is the Salt Creek trail and I really don't like it due to so many busy streets that you have to cross. I would love to be able to run a loop and not worry about coming to a screeching halt in order to cross a street.
