Subject: Skewer question
First off...what is it? LOL I just bought my hubby a KK Road Machine for X-mas. He rides an all-carbon Lemond Buenos Aires. A cyclist friend of mine told me that I would need to buy a stainless steel skewer, because the trainer will trash the one currently on his bike (???). So...are skewers basically all the same? Can I just walk into my LBS and say "I need a stainless steel skewer" and be done with it? Or do they come in certain sizes and what not? How much do does a skewer cost?

The skewer is what slides through the axle and holds the wheel on the frame. It's got a nut on one side and a lever (quick release) on the other. Any bike shop should be able to get you a skewer for very little $$$. One from a taco'ed or spent wheel should work just fine. If you're a regular customer, a used old one from the parts bin should be free. Just make sure it's for a rear wheel as the fronts are shorter.

Did you buy the trainer new? If so, the KK comes with it's own heavy duty skewer.
