Subject: End of IM training week 20
I don't know how Phil can keep track of the days until it's time to race. I put the countdown clock on my desktop at work, I looked at it once, got all sweaty and nervous and took it off my computer!

This week was a recovery week for me. I usually don't like the recovery weeks because I tend to flake on my workouts, but this week I enjoyed the easy workouts and for the first time since I have been training everything seems to be falling into place. I think I finally have my pre race and bike nutrition down. My run nutrition should be pretty simple to get down. One concern I had was if I could swim for an hour with a wetsuit on without getting a neck burn. On Tuesday I got ready to swim with the wetsuit. I put on Bodyglide, my race clothes, my HR monitor and my wetsuit. I went out to the pool but found out it was closed for the day

Swim:
I got in 3 swims for 8500 yards and 3 hours 11 min. Monday was an easy drill day. Tuesday the pool was closed. On Wednesday I finally got in my wetsuit swim and crossed one more thing off of my prerace check list. I swam 11 x 400 and most sets were 10 - 15 sec per 100 faster than I usually swim. I finished the 4400 yards in 1 hour 16 min (with about 10 seconds rest between sets) which would be great if I get out of the water in 1:16! I got in another swim before I rode my bike on Saturday.

Bike:
I got in 2 rides this week. One was at the gym because I haven't fixed the flat on my Cervelo One (from the ride from Hell). At the gym I rode on a stationary bike. I don't like those. The bike had aero bars which I found kinda funny I don't know how anybody can ride these things for more than an hour. For the second ride, it was raining so I put my P3 on the trainier and rode for 2 hours.

Run:
I got in 3 runs this week for 19.8 miles and 3 hours 35 min. 2 runs were about 5 miles and one long run of 10 miles. It felt really good to wake up on Sunday and say" I only have 10 miles today, I will knock this out so we can go to breakfast" I never thought I would say that!!

Weight training.:
I was really trying to get in some weight training this week. I got to wander around the gym on Tuesday when the pool was closed. I was totally out of place there. I was looking at all the machines thinking "OK what does this do?" I got a few core exercises from other BTers and worked on those at my break at work and after work. I really enjoy this, it's different for me. I know it's only been a week but if I take out my contacts, angle the light and squint I can almost see something that looks similar to an ab muscle I wil keep doing these.

This week is a run focus week for me, I think the week after is a bike week then the taper starts
Things seem to be falling into place and I am pretty excited about seeing what I can do out there.
Thanks for listening
Take care
Tom

That story about putting all your gear on only to find the pool was closed still cracks me up!!  Sorry Tom, but I've told everyone I know!!

Good to see that you embrassed your recovery week this time.  Oh, and not too many people can say they'll just knock out 10 miles before breakfast...very funny!!

Have a good week...I'll be checking in on you!!

ahhaha...I like the part about the abs

Keep up the solid corework buddy.  It'll pay off BIG dividends in slightly more than 30 days

Dude, your on your way. Great update, please keep them coming. "I only have 10 miles ..." I have at least 10 friends who are totally jealous of your conditioning. Go get em!

Sounds like you had a relaxed and confident week.  Must be nice to know there are only 2 more regular training weeks to go.

Tom, your physical strength is impressive. You will have no troubles with the physical 1/3 of the race. What is fantastic to see is your mental strength! As you know, the other 2/3 of the race are all mental. Your attitude is fantastic, and will serve you well in AZ. It is great to see the excitement creeping into your training.

Enjoy this journey you are on, Tom! It's something special!
