Is the new design better at keeping the "tri juice" from going all over?

I had my STI shifters and road bars with clip ons changed out for bull horns and tri bars with end shifters.

When the bike mechanic brought out my bike he showed me the gunk and rust that had built up in the cables and such of the STI shifters. I am hoping the new Profile Design aero bottle with the lid is better at keeping the crap in the bottle and not on me or my bike.

Any new design users that can vouch that the new bottle is better or not?

Otherwse I may go with a never reach or something else.

thanks

Yes, it does work better than the old one.  If you put the yellow plastic mesh in sideways, you can eliminate 99% of the splash.  If not, you still get some liquid coming out of the top and all over your bike.

I have only had mine a year, but at the Vineman 70.3 in the trisports booth I saw the newer new one with the top.

Mine gets mostly jostled on these shatty roads in SoCal. After seeing the damage of the "tri juice" I want to keep that stuff to a minimum.

I don't mind sticky stuff on me when riding, and am not a clean freak, hell my truck hasn't been washed since Spring it seems, but don't want my tri bike that I can't afford to replace getting gunked, if ya know what I mean.

thanks

yes the newer profile design bottles prevent a lot less juice from going every where. I use the aqua cell which has the same type of tops and no problems.

I bought one of the new ones earlier this season, and didn't realize it was a new design.  I couldn't understand why so many people had problems with it splashing.  So, I guess there's your answer.

Not on these roads going downhill, a few of my regular rides are Mt. Bike worthy on the downhills.

The climbs aren't flat, but they obviously feel different goin down @ 30 than up @ 9.

I have the new design and it LOOKS like it should work very well.  That said, it's only been used on my trainer, which isn't exactly a bumpy ride.

The new design still comes with the useless yellow thingy (I have not used that on the trainer).

Isn't there a sponge insert that inhibits splashing?

New ones work much better but it is easy to loose the top and little piece that goes on the top that opens to put in liquid in on the fly.

I had to call Profile to get a back up to use for my IM. Then I lost the little circle peice so I started making them from some craft foam. They are supposed to sell replacement parts but haven't as far as I know yet.

95% better than old system..but still not perfect.

Yea, the little foam part is a PITA for filling on the course.  You jam the water bottle into the top and squeeze to fill your AeroDrink and the foam thing gets all messed up.  But, I just stick my finger in there and pull up to get it sort of back into place. But, between that and the yellow mesh, I haven't had any problems with it splashing, btw.

I have the new one and have used the lid and not the yellow sponge.  I still got splashed like crazy.  Can't say I have slickest bike handling skills though either.  Gunk & rust aside, I think the splash is kinda fun on a hot day.  Think waterparkish.  Cold day, sucks.

I use the new one without the sponge, just the foam lid. Only on the bumpiest roads when the bottle was very full did I have a problem. To refill on the ride I just flip open the lid rather than shove the bottle through the foam hole. Its not hard to open or close and I can see how full it is.

foam thingy falls out when refueling on the fly....... still splashes..... if you have the double one the smaller side with "float" up and out of the bigger one, so you have to do some strategic placement of the rubber bands. i found that if you can get the bottle to be 'firmly' held in place there is a lot less splashing.

as for a remedy for the foam thingy that falls out... i think you are supposed to put that yellow sponge like part in and that will kinda hold the foam piece from falling in. it might help with the splashing as well.

i don't mind water splashing...... sports drink and all it's sticky goodness is not so welcomed.

What is wrong with the designers of the thing. Why not have a cap that screws on the bottle with a leash. As you come up to the water stop you give a quick 2-3 turns, allow the cap to hang at the side, and refill. As you come out of the stop screw the cap back on and your done. This doesn't seem that hard to me.

It isn't that hard, but how would they make any money off replacement parts?  HA

I have the old design, and was complaining at a sprint, a BT member handed me a shower poof with a loop of string on it. I have been using them ever since. Even on the bumpiest of Maryland and Colorado roads, the poof stayed put. Splashes, nada. I would put the loop over my thumb or fingers while I refilled without a problem.

I had the new top, it splashed a little, but not to bad.
The bracket on the other hand....
Lets just say that I still have the bracket, but my bottle is somewhere out on the exit ramp from 395 into downtown Miami after the race this weekend.

I've got the new design and I still get some splash.  My fix for now is I put a sandwich bag over the top then put the lid on.  I'm going to make a little velcor cover of some sort when I get around to it.

Can someone tell me what is a shower poof???

What I do now is put the yellow useless thingy inside, then I put a piece of glad cling wrap with a rubber band around it, make a small hole in the middle and that way I can refill. It is not 100% all the time as I have lost the cling wrap sometimes!!!

what is a shower poof? lolSurprised

So, u just put the poof inside the bottle and that is it? I can't imagine is that much different than the yellow thingy?

I think someone needs to post pictures (besides a shower poof ).  I've been using the top without the yellow poof and get splashed all the time (I stopped putting sports drink in it).  I honestly wasn't sure how you were supposed to use both the foam piece and the poof.  I would think that if you crammed the poof in that opening, you'd have a b**** of a time refilling it.
