I'm looking for a gym or fitness center in the Livonia area? Pool would be great, but good equipment, showers, and cleanliness are critical. Thinking about the Livonia YMCA, Snap Fitness, Anytime Fitness, LA Fitness, or Bally's. Didn't see a Gold's or Powerhouse in the area. Any opinions on these would be great.

LA Fitness is awesome.  Its a new place so there isn't a lot of people there.  I never see anyone in the pool.

There are quite a few of us at the Livonia YMCA. It's very convenient, though the pool gets a little crowded at times.

The Livonia Community Rec Center looks nice, anyone have an opinion on that place?

What about the Livonia Rec. Center?  I know there are a lot of folks from my tri-team who work out there, I did their indoor tri a few years ago and the facility was just stunning.  http://www.detroitsports.org/facilities/venueview.php?id=21

Very nice facility and family friendly as well, I used to train there with the "Team in Training" group a couple of years ago. Separate lap pool from the "play pool" which has a water slide if the kiddos are with you.

I LOVE the Livonia Community Rec Center.  The pool is great.  There is an indoor track.  And they have all of the equipment you could want.  It's pricey if you are not a resident or if you do not work in the city...that's the only negative.

I will say the Livonia Rec Center has by far one of the nicest pools in S.E. Michigan. (one caveat--AA's Fuller Park's outdoor 50 meter is a dream in the summer) Not that I've swam in that many but after swimming in some of the Livonia high school pools, the Y, some out of state pools, the Rec Center pool has very wide lanes, which easily accomodate multiple swimmers, and they keep the pool and locker room darn clean.

I very rarely encounter "strange denizens of the pool" types, although I gear my workouts to avoid these phenomena ;-)

Drawback, you'll NEVER be able to swim AFTER work.  The place is owned by the swim club from 3:30 on.  They do keep two lanes open but I try to avoid the chaos.

I also like the outdoor track adjacent to the Rec Center which is handy in warmer weather.

My one criticism is I think their weight equipment is sparse for the volume of members.  For that I joined Fitness 19, figured for the cheap price, it was worth the ease of dashing in to complete a weight workout on my terms without hassling with 15 people trying to work on one or two weight benches.
