Pre-race routine:

Over slept. Hauled ass all the way over to Smyrna. Drank 1/2 cup of coffee and ate oatmeal in the car on the way.
Event warmup:

Sprinted down the road to the registration table to pick up my number. Then sprinted to starting line to hear the MC announce that we had 30 sec until the start. No stretching.

Comments:

Its my fault. I did not look at the course description. I assumed that we would be running west, away from the rising sun. We ran east. I did not have my visor or sunglasses. I think my forehead is burned.
What would you do differently?:

Wake up earlier. Wear sunglasses/sunblock. Start out slower and be more consistent with my pace. Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and listened to the croud. Stretched my ITB.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No athletic ability. Not enough training. ITBS!

Event comments:

I would recommend it to others. Well run.

James!! You are very fast!! And to think you have been complaining about your knee. How fast are you when your knee isn't bothering you? Man, I'm impressed. Wish I could run with that kind of speed. Great job!

BTW...we must have been thinking alike this a.m. I too had coffee and oatmeal IN THE CAR! Too funny!

Great job! Sounds like a good race despite the hurried beginning! I can sympathize with the ITBS--no way I could ever make it 10k though. Good for you!
