Subject: Trouble with Garmin Sensor

I have a Garmin Edge 305 with cadence.  I love it when it works but so far that has been few and far between.  I am on my second sensor.  The first one worked as noticed by cadence data,  then one day it just decided to quit.  Garmin didn't want to do much troubleshooting and sent me a new one.  That was installed this spring, and ran all season with no problems.  Today it doesn't want to work.  No cadence data, and when i work with the GPS off, no distance data.  It is paired with my Forerunner and it won't even show cadence on that when I have it on.

Anyone else have problems with their GSC10 sensor?  Any fixes?  I am sure Garmin will replace it once again, but I don't want to have to replace the sensor every time it decides not to work.  I gotta be doing something wrong.

I haven't installed my Garmin sensor yet, but I have a similar problem with my existing cadence sensor.  It is a wired sensor, just fyi.  Some days it works fine, others not at all, sometimes it'll start working in the middle of the ride.  I usually have to adjust either the magnet or the sensor itself till its just in the exact perfect position to work.  Maybe one of the two pieces got bumped out of position?

mine died suddenly one day and haven't been able to revive it.  Outside warranty so I just go without.  I know friends with similar stories.

I would say the same thing.  One day, it stopped working and I didn't notice it for a while.  I thought it was broken, but just some manipulation of the sensor, got it working again.

Yeah, my Garmin cadence sensor is not very reliable.  Cadence works fine, but speed/distance often craps out when I'm on the trainer.  To be clear:  the watch unit itself seems fine -- the sensor seems to be less than wonderful.

I have wiggled it and jiggled it and flipped it 180 and can't get it to work.  the watch works fine, but the sensor stinks.  I can't figure out what I am doing wrong; the technology is not rocket science.  reading these posts I guess I am not doing anything wrong, it just is extremely touchy.  I think I can get Garmin to send me a new one I guess I will try that route for now.

Not too much trouble with sensor other than I need to replace the battery about every year. Just started using a trainer, we'll see what happens with that....

From what I understand the battery in the sensor does not last very long.  Have you tried changing it?

I'm on my second one as well. The first worked ok for a few weeks, then started dying by reporting speed and cadence erratically (40 mph up a steep hill...sounded nice but....).  I purchased a new one and have not had any issues since.  Seems they're of pretty poor quality given the number of people who have had the issue.

Maybe you can get Garmin to replace, again?  Not sure what they warranty is on it.

I've been getting speed data but nothing for cadence. I haven't found the time to play with the pedal magnet alignment since it's sitting in a groove on the inside of the crank arm that doesn't let it lay flat.

I have had the CAD on for a while and no issues with that, but the speed never worked at all. I was getting the speed from the GPS but indoors its a no go, I called Garmin and they took all my info and said that they had issues and wanted me to send my sensor into a specific persons attention and they would email me instructions....3 weeks ago no results.  time to call back.

i've put in a couple hours on my trainer with my new 305 with cadence sensor and have had no issues.  both speed and cadence seem to be fairly accurate.  my fingers are crossed that i don't run into the same problems as some of you.  the only data that seems to be off on my 305 is the elevation.  i've been out on a handful of runs since getting it and in every case my beginning and ending elevations differ, which is odd since i always start and stop the watch at the same location.

Elevation has always been off. (Glad I don't use it for flying!) On loop rides my start and end points are different elevations even though they are the same point! Will download my trainer workout tonight and see what issues I (hopefully) do not have.

I haven't had any problems with mine after 3 months.  I'd recheck the alignment, reset it (watching for the green and red led's) the replace the batter in the sensor.

Forerunner 305 is not an accurate elvation tool and you cannot trust the elevation readings.  It will usually read much higher than actual for cycling/running.  Edge 305 is much more accurate

I replaced the battery in the sensor, and I checked the LED's.  I get a green light when the spoke magnet passes the sensor, but nothing when the pedal magnet passes.

I fiddled with the alignment and now get speed and distance, but no cadence.  I wonder if something is askew with the pedal magnet.  Not sure what could possibly happen to a magnet
