Total Time = 1h 25m 50s
Overall Rank = 302/537
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 19/22
Pre-race routine:

Setup trans. area. Kiss my wife!
Event warmup:

I attempted to swim but I couldn't because of the large waves and wood debris all over the ocean bottom.
Swim
  • 20m 33s
  • 400 meters
  • 05m 08s / 100 meters
Comments:

We had 6-7 foot waves. It was very hard to get past the break, I must have spent at least 5 minutes trying. Also, there were large pieces of wooden branches and other things under the water. It was pretty miserable out there.
What would you do differently?:

Get through the break faster and not let the current take me out so far off course.
Transition 1
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

I took off my wetsuit on the beach because of the long run up a hill to T1. I knew that the suit would dry when I got to T1 so I took the opportunity to catch my breath and take the suit off. It also made it a lot easier to run in the sand.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Bike
  • 33m 50s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.28 mile/hr
Comments:

I almost ate it when I did the final 90 degree turn into the T1 area.
What would you do differently?:

Ride a little easier during the start and make sure at the end that I rest so that my legs don't cramp when I jump off the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

This went very smoothly.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 29m 24s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

I have ITBS (iliotibial Band Syndrome) I know, I know, I should not have done this, but I couldn't help it!! I also had very bad hamstring cramps when I got off the bike. I had to stop and stretch them.
What would you do differently?:

Not have ITBS
Post race
Warm down:

I iced my knee and had some fruit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ITBS, 6 foot waves, and tree branches

Event comments:

The race ppl ran out of strawberries. There was nothing to do after the race. No entertainment. Last year's seemed much better. I would do this again though. It was a lot of fun trying to figure out the swim.
