To all of you who helped me formulate a race strategy when confronting high winds....a sincere thank you. Your advice worked perfectly.

I'll post an RR when the official results get posted, but I did the Athens, TX, YMCA sprint tri this morning. For those who followed along, I was freaked at the wind forecast. It really was as bad as it seemed. Winds 20-30 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH. Y'all told me to ride high with a tailwind and to ride low (and spin) with a headwind. Guess what? It worked. Had to get down into my granny gear at mile 11 during one of those gusts, but my confidence is sky-high. Followed the hard bike with a 26 minute 5K and beat every member of my extended family (including a 16 YO nephew). Now I know my times aren't stellar; many of you can do this in your sleep. I just want to say thank you for helping an average joe get through a hard morning.

People, when you ask for wind advice on this board? Listen!

Average joe in my generic oscar acceptance speech=Joe M. A very, very sincere thank you to my young and bald friend. I followed your advice to the letter.

So, do I owe you a diaper change or something?

THANK YOU FOR SHARING ON A NEWBIE FORUM!

Congratulations! Athens is in my neck of the woods. I almost went out there today to watch, but decided to get my long ride in during the morning hours before the wind got any worse. Several of my teammates were at the tri (Roadkill Triathlon club). I did the all women's one there last June as my first tri and it was great. If you like Athens, you should come to the Jefferson tri in July, that one is a lot of fun too and really laid back.
