Subject: Running shop you would recommend in/near Cary

Hey,

I need a new pair of running shoes and want to have someone knowledgable help me this time (I've always just kinda guessed at what shoes would work for me). Anyone have a store they would recommend in the Cary/Durham area?

Thanks!!

OK, cool. I got to them for assorted tri-junk, so will check out the shoes there as well. I never thought they carried shoes (am always too distracted by the other gizmo's they have in there!). Thanks for the suggestion.

They are really good at watching your gait and putting you in the right shoes.  I was 'fitted' for shoes before and I always ended up with knee pains after a short amount of time.  I went to inside out sports and they quickly told me that I needed a completely different kind of shoe, they fitted me into the right ones, and I haven't had problems since!

Call ahead and see when Jeff Freer is working.  He will provide immense help with shoes.  If IOS doesn't work out, go check out TrySports at Crabtree.  They have a nice system, and helpful associates as well.  If THAT doesn't work, go check out Fleet Feet at Ridgewood (Ridge and Wade).  I fell in love with Mizunos a couple of years ago, so haven't run in anything but them.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I really appreciate it. I've been in Asics 2120's for a long time but had a mini gait analysis done at work and it suggested I didn't need a stability shoe. Since I have been having on-again, off-again issues I figured it would be smart to get a professional take a look.

It all depends on WHO is fitting you in each store.  I've seen good and bad fits in about every store in Raleigh, except Fleet Feet (because I haven't seen anyone fit there).  I've taken my dad, step mom, brother, girlfriends dad, and mom....to be fit for shoes and have been to 4 different stores.  Majority of the fits were HORRIBLE.  While I was at IMAZ, we strolled over to Road Runner Sports (huge website sales, but only stores out west).  I was refit and confirmed for the shoes I was in.  However, they used the tready video to look at your gate and the pressure pad to show your arch.  Again, these are only tools and have to be used by the right person.

So that being said, go with a recommended FITTER rather than store.  There are some great guys/girls at Raleigh Running Outfitters (See Sam), InsideOut Sports (See Jeff), and TrySports (See Steven).  Happy Hunting...
