Subject: 13 wks to a HIM, then again to IM
Hey - Im curious who'se used these programs by Gale Bernhardt. Im reading her book and learning a lot of good stuff...I'd like to incorporate these 2 plans in my season this year. I've got a HIM on 7/13 of this year then I plan on taking 2 wks. off/recovery - then start the 13 wks to IM build for IM Florida in Nov. The timing works well and I should certainly have enough base from my half to start in on the full. Right now Im biking and running with a teeny bit of swimming built in. The plan is to continue running and biking about 7-8 hrs/ wk. Then gradually build in the swimming in mid Feb. Do you think it's a good plan?

That sounds pretty similar to what I'm doing --- I'm not using that program, but I am following the BT HIM program until my HIM on 07/12 (Rhode Island 70.3) then taking off two weeks, then following the BT IM program until IMCOZ in Nov.

That's the HIM Im doing - I just had the date wrong. Last year I used the free HIM plan from here and it was great - I've been much more consistent training on my own and think that being on "a plan" for 13 wks. should be able to do the trick instead of the 20 week plan.  Happy training - you probably start soon, right?

Did the Rhode Island 70.3 last year.  Great race; the swim was a littly choppy.  Only real thing to note is get to registration early and watch out for those hills near Brown University on the run.  They are so steep that you may have to walk them.

Good luck.

I did it last year too - them thar hills were TOUGH for sure! I walked them completely the 2nd loop and probably 85% of them the first loop. Im hoping for a smoother check in this year. Are you in this year?

i am also doing the 13 weeks to a 13 hour IM. I have asked a few times on here about the plan and have heard some positives about it. Some have known someone that has used it and were able to finish in 13 hours. I will be tweaking the plan though. I have increased the long bike rides so that I end up at the longest going 6 hours instead of 5. I will also be adding a couple workouts per week on by weak stuff if time allows. Looks like a good plan that allows time for life.
