So I've used Body Glide for my running but wondered if it's as good as Chamois Butt'r for biking? It would be really great if someone could let me in on the secret without me having to sacrafice my backside!

I have used body glide, chamois butt'r, and bag balm for riding.

On the trainer I like chamois butt'r as I move around less I think and it is more comfortable.

Outside on my long 4-8 hour rides, I usually use bag balm first and then chamois butt'r on top.

Body Glide is the most expensive meaning you get less stuff per $.

I've tried both butt for my money, a big jar of Vaseline provides the most bang for the buck.  Vaseline is cheap, available everywhere and does not wash off as easily as Chamois and Body Glide.

Bag balm works great for both rides and runs and as mentioned way cheaper then BG.

Dumb question here...I know where the chamois butt'r goes for riding, but where are you guys/gals using Bodyglide or whatever for running? I've been using it on my feet/toes, due to some of my toes rubbing together...and sometimes I need it on the underside of my arms because certain tops that I wear cause some chafing there. But are there other areas that I should be using it, on runs?

Be careful with the amount of bag balm you use though, I've had a very difficult time getting it out of a couple pairs of tri shorts when I went too liberally with the stuff.

The washing machine doesn't even get it out initially....

chamoix butter is great for riding but useless in a triathlon (unless you apply in transition after the swim)....Even then you have to make sure you're really dry in the "saddle" which is difficult...

The best way to answer this is to go long on a warm day and see where your clothes abrade.  I never had feet issues but the crotch, arms where they rub on some sleaveless shirts and nipples.

don't use either for a week or two depending on how much you train. it will suck. but then you will never have to think about this again.

Weird - maybe I haven't been riding far enough, but I haven't needed chamois butt'r for cycling (yet). Did a hilly 4 hr ride yesterday, and was still ok, although I wonder if I'd still feel that way after 6...

I used to just use Body Glide while riding, but I was getting pretty bad chafing.  Now, I'm using Assos and haven't had problems.

Ok, yeah...I definitely get the arm rubbing with sleeveless tops. Seems like that issue just recently cropped up for me...never used to have this problem before. I used to be able to wear just about any type of sleevless shirt or tank...but now, I'm taking a closer look at the seams and armholes before I decide what to wear. Had a really bad case of it the other day...certainly contributed to a lousy, uncomfortable 3 mile run.

I went 20 years without using it, but now I wouldn't go over 10 mile WITHOUT it.  Makes my tushie feel much better on the longer rides. (less 'gummy' in the never-regions. TMI, I know!)
