Subject: Yoga or Pilates?

OK - question that is not for me, but for my wife.  I take yoga nd like it, so I am set.

My wife is looking at taking a yoga class or a pilates class at our gym, but she doesn't know which one.  My suggestion of trying both and deciding then was treated as if I was a five year old.

I don't really know the difference between the two forms, however, so I can;t really explain it to her.

She is not a triathlete, not even an endurance athlete.  She is an awesome volleyball player and coach, she is a great golfer, and she is/was superb at basketball

Suggestions?

In regards to Pilates...I'm thinking about trying a Pilates studio in my town. They offer both mat classes and private one-on-one apparatus sessions. Awhile back, I tried a Pilates class at my gym...I didn't do so well. I had a hard time holding the positions. I assume this is due to my rather weak core. Would taking a one-on-one session on the reformer machines help strengthen my core enough to eventually be able to handle a mat class? And if so, roughly how many sessions would it take to build up my core strength enough for a mat class?

Try both.  I prefer pilates, many folks prefer yoga.  Make up your mind for yourself.  Both are great accompaniments to tri training for core strength and stability.  There ae a lot of similarities in the moves sometimes with different names to the move and sometimes no difference in the name.
