Subject: Swim accomplishment - 0 to 1650 success

Started training for Columbia Triathlon (my first Olympic distance, i've only done 1 sprint with 500 meter pool swim) and have never swam any distance.  Started the 0 to 1650 plan, to get up to a mile.  Well, this is week 4 of 6 and once i hit 600 meters, felt good and kept going.  Once i hit 1000 meters, felt good and went all the way up to a mile. Tool about 32 minutes.

It's amazing what 3 or 4 mornings in the pool with a structured program  can do.   Now i will focus on technique now that i know i can swim the distance.

Thanks for all the tips on swimming here.  They're helping me a lot.

Mike

Do you have a link handy for that plan? I'm at the 250yds and slowly climbing but no real direction

Thanks.  It was a good milestone for my own ego.  Makes me that work excited to bust my butt for the next 15 weeks.

Yep.  Great plan.  I've used it a couple of times to lend structure to my swims.  Glad to hear it worked for you, too.

There's just something cool about saying, "I swam a mile today."

Congrats and your time is right on 2min/100m pace! Not too shabby for 4 weeks of training

Congrats!

I hope 2 join you soon. I just finished week 3 (1250 yds) but I am changing it up a little. I get the yards that it says but I do not go less than 100 on any given rep. so my week 3 above was 400 200 200 5 x 100 for a total of 1300yds.

I might do what you did now that I read that. I have never thought of just going the 1650 if it felt good.

Maybe next week I can join you in swimming a straight 1650.

Congrats again and many many happy laps ahead.

Congrats, I just reached 1 mile yesterday about the same way you described. I set out to do 1000 and thought, what the hell, might as well make it a mile. I started out dreading swimming 8 weeks ago, but I actually enjoyed swimming a mile so went back and did it again today. Congrats again!
