I just came from Tri(the folks were very nice, helpful) where I tried on:

  • Enelle bra - OMG. No thank you. I couldn't breathe in the thing. They did live up to their advertising - boobies did not move at all.
  • Mizuno sport bra - no support, way too much bounce, I was all mushed
  • Tyr 1-piece front zip - I likey!
  • Orca 1 piece front zip - I likey likey!
  • Orca 1 piece back zip - Nyet.

I'll look for the Under Armour at Sports Authority. I do feel better having an idea of what I'll be wearing 8 weeks from now.

On the loss of weight/cup size topic: I don't lose cup size when I lose weight (been a D since high school and 110 lbs), but I should go back down to a 34 since I went up to a 36 only in the last 5 yrs when I went from 130 to 140.

Tania, update on the trisuits: on the phone they say that their clearance has been going on since November and all they have in my size (small) is stuff for over $100. Sorry for the bad info. I'm very disappointed!

When it comes to running and tri's, I would KILL for smaller boobs.  I would gladly give up cleavage (which I never show anyway!) to wear cute tri clothes.

Me too!!!!!! It's so nice to see that other people have the same problems I do. Boobs are a pain (sometimes literally) and have just gotten in the way all my life. With as much $$$ as I've spent on good sports bras over the years, I could probably buy a new bike!

jldicarlo, if your jog bra is sliding up then it is too big around. This means you should go down a size (from 36 to 34 or whatever). If you jog bra is adjustable around the trunk, put it on a tighter size. My favorite jog bra is the Champion:
http://www.title9sports.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=...

It has adjustable shoulder straps and trunk straps, which are key for me b/c I am short and skinny but have a large cup size. It also comes in a wicking version, but I can't seem to find it.

Edited to add the link to the wicking version:

And tri lizard, does the last resort bra dry during the race? I worry with a jog bra under the tri top I am going to feel so soggy. Blech.

Not to worry! I ran down there, and went ahead and bought one anyway. They had the exact model I had already decided on (QR) and for the same price as I found on the web, and this way I got to try it on. It's all good.

I own one of those and have it set on the tightest setting and it still chafes!  I think I am just DOOMED. :-(

Since we're talking cup size here, I have a question. For the last 12 years, my weight has been basically the same, and so has my cup size. Sometimes I am slightly more muscle and less fat, and other times more fat and less muscle. But here's the weird part: when I am swimming frequently for exercise (like, multiple times a week), the girls shrink. Seriously. Like, as much as a full cup size (I went from a 32dd to a large 32c). But, if I am doing any other kind of exercise (playing soccer, lifting weights etc) just as regularly, they don't shrink. Has anyone else experienced swimming-induced shrinkage?

PS On the topic of breast reductions, I know a number of women who have had them, and they have all been incredibly glad they did. In terms of getting insurance to cover it due to medical necessity, try a few visits to a chiropractor for back pain, and then get he/she to write you a note explaining that a reduction will cure all your lower back ailments.

My reason for surgery..... My boobs do not fit my lifestyle!!! Think the insurance company will go for that?

Sounds like a logical reason to me.  You'll have to let me know if they go for it!

p.s. I just bit the bullet and bought out of those Enell over-the-shoulder-boulder-holders.  I'll let you know how it goes.  I can't believe I am resorting to the last resort...but I'm seriously getting SCARS from the chafing...

I need support up top too. I'm a 36C and find this top gives me great support, dries quickly and is comfortable. Follow the link below and check out the Women's T-Back Top:

http://desotosport.com/products/women.asp

You might want to order 2 sizes to check out and send one back. I find it tricky to get the right size in this kind of item.

The Enelle also mashed my boobies, seriously flattening my ummm beamer area. I don't like mashed boobalage. Matt, the guy at Tri3, asked me what I want I didn't like about the bra (so he could advise other female customers) and I stuttered a bit trying to explain.

I want a bra that gives me support AND maintains my shape. Is that too much to ask? Think I'll stop into Sports Authority and checkout the Under Armour.

Bodyglide all under your boobs. Yeah, it's nasty but it'll keep you from scaring. I used to be raw all the time.

I wish I'd found this site a couple of months ago when I was wondering what on earth I was going to wear. I'm not huge in that area but definately can not run without a bra on.

After doing a fair few experiments I now wear my bathers top (its a two piece with a t-back) and a tri top and tri shorts. the tri top has a shelf bra in it. and with the support of the bathers and the shelf bra i have no bounce at all. I swim in the top and shorts and don't have to change in any of the transitions. which means less to worry about.

Also as the bathers and tri top are made to be swum in they dry quite fast.

I always wear a sports bra under my trisuit.  I'm not real big, so it has nothing to do with bouncing boobs.  I like the trisuits with the zipper down the front.  In warm weather I pull the zipper down.  If I don't have a bra on underneath that is not an option.  (Unless I want to do a Janet jackson wardrobe malfunction.  :-Þ)  Find a sports bra that's mostly lycra.  Lycra dries out quickly, and won't be as bulky as a cotton blend.

I am a Last Resort kind o' gal. But I race in a different bra that dries quicker - I just pulled it out and looked at it to check the brand to report to you all but it is washed away from the tag. It says "Shock Absorber" on a little tag center front lower band and "Answers" on the tag inside, if that helps. It is ok on the natural shape-front (you can tell there are 2 for sure), and dries quicker. But for general no bounce confort training - the Last resort Ennel does it for me. I can imagine that it does not fit all - maybe they will add sizing in the future.

If you are large, don't go with lycra or anything that has much stretch - that is how you bounce. This Shock absorber has no lycra and dries well.

I find that losing weight only makes them bounce more - loose skin issues. boy, that sounds cute, doesn't it? The joys of coming up on 40.

So, I wear a bra and tri shorts and a wet suit, strip off the wetsuit, put on a underarmour shirt (difficult when wet) and go go go. After a fashion, that is.

*sigh* Tried on about 10-12 bras last night at Sports Authority. They had UnderArmour, very cute style and cut, but I had uhhh side spillage with the Large and they didn't have XL. All others did nothing to quiet the bounce, even some promising looking Champion bras (some of which looked like the old, pointy-boobed Maidenforms). I think I might have to reconsider the Enell, maybe try on a larger size this time.
