Subject: Interesting new info re: Coeur d'Alene 09 and 10

I recently read this for anyone who was considering a charity slot for Coeur d'Alene 09 or easy registration for 10.

Additionally, this year's Ironman 70.3 event in Boise will now offer entry into Ford Ironman Coeur d'Alene. The two Idaho-based races have partnered, allowing athletes an exclusive opportunity to gain entry into one of the most popular Ironman races in the world.

Participants in the 2009 Ironman 70.3 Boise will be able to register for Ford Ironman Coeur d'Alene immediately following the awards ceremony on June 13. There will be 25 slots available for the 2009 Coeur d'Alene event on June 21. There is no limit to the possible registrations for the 2010 Ford Ironman Coeur d'Alene. Event registration will be open only to athletes participating in the 2009 Ironman 70.3 Boise event.

"Coeur d'Alene has built a strong relationship with the triathlon community, as athletes visit the city to train on the course and return to the event year after year," said Ford Ironman Coeur d'Alene Race Director Andy Emberton. "We're pleased to support Ironman 70.3 Boise as the community develops that same relationship with the sport."

So the Boise 70.3 folks will get a shot at 2010 Coeur d'Alene registration before the 2009 Coeur d'Alene 2009 finishers do.  I know we have a bunch of BT ers going to the 70.3 Boise 09, so something to keep in mind.  I may just bite on that one myself.

Am I reading this right?  You can do a half on the 13th and then sign up and do a full 14 days later.  Sounds like a great idea.

And at the same time, they announced that RI 70.3 would be getting Kona slots this year.  Seems WTC/NAS are continuing to try to tighten their grip on long course events.  Not surprising and probably not the end of it.

Ya the 2009 70.3 might be a "little too close" to the IM for 2009, so why not open them up to the masses as new slots if they are not going to be filled by charity folks?  I guess it is to set the precident for the 09 HIM 10 IM registration.  That way you need to do two races for them to get easier registration for the IM.  It would really suck though if they had so many 70.3 registrants taht there were not enough IM registrations to go around.  I guess that is not a concern?

Er...that'd be doing the full 8 days later...Not that people haven't done IM's on back-to-back weekends or anything.

IMCdA doesn't sell out in minutes, so I'm not sure there is a strong need to thrash yourself just to be assured a slot.  When you start seeing tie-in's to the other M-dot races, you'll know were in for the ride.

Duh.  You know what they say.  "There are three types of people in the world.  Those that can do math and those that cann't."

Well, that makes it easier for me then. I am planning on signing up for CDA 2010.
