Well, I have decided to be my own coach this year!

I am a Bronze member on BT and looked at the ONE HIM training plan there. It looks OK, but I want to look at other options as well.

What resources have you used to create your own HIM training plan?

BTW- I expect to start it June 1st and my HIM isn't until October 25th.

I have Matt Fitzgeralds book, Essential Week by Week Training Plans and used it for awhile.  I have used Training Plans for Multisport Athletes: Your Essential Guide to Triathlon, Duathlon, XTERRA, Ironman, and Endurance Racing by Gale Bernhardt successfully in a HIM last year and am using it this year for my HIM.  She has several plans in her book and I do some modification.  I went back to her because of the way she lays out the workouts compared to Matt.  I travel every week at least Tuesday through Thursday, and Gales plan allow me to complete more key workouts than Matt's.

I probably should design my own, but I am not quite knowledgeable enough yet.

I do need to decide soon on what I will use for my 2010 IM.  I am thinking of the BT programs, but they seem to  be very swim heavy, so I will have to modify it probably.

For your IM have you thought about using one of the plans out of her book. There are 3 that look pretty good. I am using the 26 week plan and am thinking of switching to the 13 week to a 13 hour IM after I get throught the first 13 weeks of the plan I am on now.

I've used the Oly plan from trinewbies.com. They also have a HIM plan:

http://www.trinewbies.com/tno_trainingprograms/tno_HIM.asp

Their plans tend to be bike-heavier, which I liked, than the plans here.

Last year I did the free HIM program from here and finished fine - this year Im doing a smorgashbord of Gale B.'s plans - basically the last 13 weeks of her 27 wk. HIM plan but will up the bike milage a bit just to get ready for my HIM about 15 wks. after my HIM. Also Im incorporating some of the run and swim workouts from her 13 wks. to an under 13 IM into my HIM/IM training just for some variation.

Yes, I am looking at the 26 week IM plan.  I think it's doable.  I just have to try and get my life together!Yell

If you think about it, let me know how it is working from time to time and how your IM goes.  I will add you to my friends list so I can see how it's progressing.  Which IM are you doing?

I am doing louisville this year. So far it is a little rough. I have an IT band issue that I am dealing with but so far I have hit almost every workout but I have decreased intensity. I am on week 9 and it is very doable so far. We shall see as it picks up a bit. I will keep you updated on how everything goes.

Here is another vote for using one of the plans out of Gale's book.

I used the 13 weeks to HIM plan to prepare for my first HIM in April and found that it worked well for me. I especially liked having the key (long) workouts on the weekends as I am not overburdened with time during the week.

I will most likely use combination of the 26 and 13 week plans to get ready for the Longhorn HIM in Oct.

Great! Just bought it at Amazon! Thanks for posting the link in this thread!

This should be fun making my own plan. Embarking on something new can be great!

I'm planning on doing Austin as well for my first HIM. I'll be using one of Gale's plans as well. Good luck to you. Maybe I'll see you there!!!
