I think this will be my first race. Is anyone else planning on going?

Yes. I'm planning on going. It will be my third. The last one was last weekend and I am now motivated by humiliation. I will be better prepared for this one. My legs weren't in shape and I was slacking for the prior month and I cramped bad at th end of the bike. These mini-sprint triathlons are very fun and very do-able. I now need to spend some time in the pool to improve my swim so I can enter some with longer swims. And of course improve my run and bike. Its a great motivator. Where are you and where are you training?

Well technicly I live in Garden Grove right now but I split time between GG and Fullerton. Right now I just run 4.5 miles 3-5 days a week and weight train but starting this weekend I will starting riding my bike (Mt bike) and swimming when I can. I picked the San bern Tin man because it's only a 100m swim. The ones I do after that I will go longer after I get more training in. I have a little less then 2 months to get better and bring up my stanama for the swim and bike.

I did this race last year as my first tri. A few pearls:

Temps last year were HOT, as in pushing 90F by the start of the race. Hydrate well and stay in the shade as much as possible before the start so you don't burn out on the 5k.

There is one fairly significant hill near the beginning of the bike portion- you may want to drive it, or even ride it, beforehand so you know what to expect.

Don't worry about the swim. It's only 100m. My advice would be to go all out on the run and bike, since you'll only be in the water for a couple minutes (or less). Last year, it was so freakin hot by the time I got in the pool, I was just glad to cool off.

This was a very fun and well organized race, great for 1st timers. Good mix of seasoned triathlon vets and newbies. Well supported, friendly volunteers. I might do it again, but I still have nightmares of that 5k. Have fun!

This year it's only 3.1 running, 9 riding, and 100yrd swim. It starts at 7am so So at least the run won't get burning hot.

Last year's start time was also pretty early. Hopefully the heat was a fluke, but still best to be prepared.

This event was fun! The freaking hill sucked on my Mt bike and really I did not train on hills but I feel I did ok. The weather was good but I think the altitude and smog got to me a bit. I had an off run portion of the race. But all in all I think it was a great first Tri for me.
