Total Time = 1h 12m 29s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 11/20
Pre-race routine:

Pool swim started in waves; had to wait 2 hours for my wave. Did some stretching and otherwise just chilled.
Swim
  • 10m 18s
  • 525 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

My swim time was exactly what I expected going into the event, given what I had been doing in training.

What would you do differently?:

My swim training peaked in mid-March. I was nearly a minute faster then. Would like to figure out why I regressed.
Transition 1
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Swam w/o a shirt and put a tight biking shirt on in the T area. Almost ripped it apart getting it over my wet torso. Put shoes on before taking out the bike; have a ratchet for the top closure on my shoes and its not possible to mount the shoes on the pedals and get into them while riding; probably costs a few seconds extra.
What would you do differently?:

Tried to hydrate while moving out of the T area. Could have used more.
Bike
  • 32m 9s
  • 11 miles
  • 20.53 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

For longer rides, I'll need a hydration system that I can access without moving from the aero bars.
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

Got one foot out of shoes, so went into T2 with one shoe on the bike and one on my foot. The change into sneakers was quick and easy.
What would you do differently?:

Get both shoes off, I guess. Should have had hydration to grab and take with me. Terrible cotton mouth until I got to the first H2O station at mile 1.
Run
  • 27m 55s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Very slow. First mile was pathetic, 2nd OK. Finally got into a rythmn near the end.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure; practice bike/run bricks more I guess and generally improve my running.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing in particular; just need to focus more on my weaker diciplines.

As soon as you figure out what to do in that first mile, let me know.

I read a lot of race reports from new racers this week. Everyone mentions the bike/run transition as a tough one.
