Subject: OWS practice around STL??
Hey STL folks -

I'm new to the multisport world and just finished my first event. Now, I'm hooked and looking forward to the next one!  So, my question to all of you is where around St. Louis to go to practice in open water? I've come across a few lakes, but most prohibit swimming or require homeownership for access.  If anyone has any ideas to share, I thank you in advance.

Thanks,
-Joe

Creve Cour Lake had some non-race events in the past and may again this summer.

Short of knowing somebody at Lake Saint Louis, or Innsbrook, your best bet is what lfrick said.

Welcome aboard, Joe!  What event did you do?  What else do you have on your schedule?

Big Shark is having them at the pond in New Town in St. Charles...I think it's on the weekend,--check their web. Last year, Ghisallo did it at creve coure (I can NOT spell that for the life of me!), so I would check their web site as well.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback!  I was afraid that might be the case.

Getsome - I did TriZou last week and it was a great learning experience.  Next on the docket is Newtown in July out in St. Charles. (The logic was a pool swim for the first event and then a short lake swim in the next one to continue getting comfortable with everything) After that, well, let's just see how that one goes first!

Cheers,
-Joe

This might be late notice but...

Big Shark-New Town Open Water Swim Series - Four practice sessions will be offered on the same 1500m buoyed swim course used in the July-19 Big Shark New Town Triathlon. Swimming open 8am to 10am on the four desgnated Saturdays: May 9, 16, 23, 30. Life guards, wetsuit clinic included. $10/ session.

I will be there tomorrow, hopefully trying out my first wetsuit!

Thanks Emily! I ran across that the other night as well.  Looks perfect.  I'll be out there tomorrow morning as well trying to learn the ins/outs of wetsuits. I'll be the Mr. Clean lookin' Clydesdale looking confused at the wetsuit clinic!  See 'ya there.

Who went. I was there today, my First time in my orca 3.8 wetsuit.  Felt great and btw I thought the new town tri was only 1000m not 1500m.

I was there in a sleeveless wetsuit and the water was wonderful. Cool but not COLD. It was actually colder when you got out because the wind was pretty active and the sun was not always out. Not sure about actual temperature. My friend didn't wear a wetsuit and said it was chilly but manageable.

Anyone going this Saturday?
