I started getting calf cramps when running just 100/300 yards after my ride today. That is new. Thighs usually kill me but not calves. Today I did increase my cadance on my ride and rode in a lower gear could that be it?

This happens to quite a few people. If you're new to bricks, expect them. However, make sure you're hydrated, and prior to dismounting, stretch your calves while riding by lifting yourself out of the seat and placing both feet at 9 and 3 o'clock and stretching for a few seconds. This should help.

I have that as well, but it usually works itself out after about 1/2 mile. Tough first 1/2 mile, but it usually just gets better for me.

I had an injury in my right calf last year in a multi-brick and it tends to come back every now and again as a knot...but the foam roller and golgi-tendon seem to be helping me out to cure it.

If you are new to bricks, it may be normal... If not, you might have been dehydrated. If it becomes cronic though, you might have a lack of potassium/magnesium or sodium. It happened to me and food supplements helped a lot...

Good luck !

Ditto trilover. It happened to me in my first race and BAD! I was hobbling for 1 mile and had to stop and stretch against a lamppost. I never really got rid of them during the 5K. I spoke with a very experienced team member about it and she said
1. Do more bricks. Up to that point I had concentrated on the swim and just figured I could tough out the bike/run portion. Wrong!
2. Pay attention to your electrolytes! Depending on how much you struggle with the swim you can be very low by the time you get off the bike. I now use Hammer HEED for my sports drink and take Hammer Endurolyte capsules before hard workouts or races. I have never had the calf cramps again.

Could it be a seat height issue? What I'm thinking is, if your seat is too high, you have to flex your ankle a lot on the bottom of the stroke, which could really tire your calves.

Just a guess, I may not have any clue what I'm talking about
