Periodically you hear about cases like this and I can't help but think, if you are predispositioned for a heart attack, the best you can do is postpone it a little while.  Had be been eating a bacon-cheeseburger it wouldn't have surprised anyone....but it always seems odd to hear of an athlete dying from a heart attack.  Then again, non-smokers die from cancer all the time.  If you follow my logic....many factors.

x2. I'm 38 and with three kids myself... makes me wonder if there's anything I can do to prevent this from happening. The guy was in great shape. I guess when it's your time to "go home" you don't have a whole lot of say in it.

yes, I saw this as well.  Very sad.  he exemplified the balance of work/personal/and triathlon life that most all of us strive for.  he made time to stop and smell the roses.  My prayers are with his family

They think it was a heart thing--I believe his heart has been sent to autopsy.

I didn't know of Steve at all - just got into this sport. But I hope when my days are through I have people that will speak of me as they have of him. If that is the measure of a man, this guy was 10 feet tall.

And just a bit scary as well. I just scheduled a full physical. Been a couple years since I had the full workup.

I was fortune to meet Steve , at the time i had no idea of who he was , and i was chatting with his kid about soccer and he was so interested in soccer as well because of his kid's passion for the sport. I feel for the family and especially his kids and wife. I lost my father in the early age and i can't imagine what they are going through right now, he was a champion, a superb athlete, a great leader, family man, and an incredible human being.
God Bless his family and friends.
