A co-worker of mine needs to sell his 2003 Cervelo P3. He is asking 1900$ which appears to be a pretty good deal and I might be able to get him lower as he needs to sell it quickly.

So my questions are:

1. Is this a pretty decent deal?
2. Since I am in my first tri year and am new to the sport, is this a purchase thats a little too early?

The way I see it, triathlon is something I plan to do for the rest of my life and I will eventually need a tri bike. I dont know if this is a "once in a lifetime" type deal thats worth pursuing or if I am jumping the shark. Any advice would be welcome.

  1. Does it fit?
  2. Does it fit?
  3. Does it fit?
  4. Does it fit?
  5. Is it in good (i'e', like new, never crashed) shape?
  6. Can you afford it?
  7. If answers to above questions are yes, then what are you worried about?

Oh sorry bear, yeah its my size. I can afford it pretty much but I am concerned about the wife fallout for having two bikes and being a newb in triathlon

Sell/trade-in wife. Any woman that would frown upon less than four bikes has her priorities in the wrong place.

You won't be a newb forever. If you think this is a deal, then jump on it.

Get the bike. I can't remember the exact line but it starts out that it is better to ask forgiveness...... Anyone know the rest?

definitely not better, but "EASIER to beg forgiveness than to ask permission..."

Well I am in luck, I mentioned it to my wife and she actually told me to buy it as well. Now to see if I can get the price down a little to make it sting a little less

It sounds like a very good deal to me, but only if it fits and you say that it does!  If you can afford it, I would say go ahead and buy it; you certainly will never regret it.  The P3 is just about one of the best tri bikes that you can buy for any price.

Hey joscon,

Just got a new bike too - congrats. I noticed in your races that your doing the Lake Norman Tri. I live in Salisbury, and just registered for that one too. If you're ever interested in doing some riding, let me know. I too am pretty new. My first tri is scheduled for June.
