Pre-race routine:

7:15-7:30 Immune 26 with juice. Water. Start time was moved back because of long line at park entrance. 25 min in line.
Event warmup:

8 min in water acclimating.
Need to work on transition layout area.
Swim

Comments:

a little choppy. after the 1/2 way mark I started to settle down a little and was able to swim head down better. Decided that choppy waves were less a factor when my head was down!!
What would you do differently?:

Continue to work on head down breathing out side
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Tough transition for me. tired, slow getting suit off and clothes on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, good first time, next time maybe a little faster.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 14 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good, only walked 2 times, and just a VERY short distance.
Had trouble with shifting gears, not sure if it was me or bike.
Found if I coasted in a low gear, bike would jump out of gear. If I coasted in a higher gear, it didn't happen.
What would you do differently?:

Coast in higher gear.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Much faster this time. Still a little disoriented comming out.
Took Gel leaving transition area.
What would you do differently?:

maybe gel at transition, or just before.
Make sure I know ahead of time which way to go, don't spend time asking.
Run
  • 1h 05m
  • 4 miles
  • 16m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

Did not train for hills. Had heated up by this time, and the hills through off my running intervals. Slower recovery times.
Saved up at the last to be sure I would finish strong. Lots of encouragement along the way, much from joggers and walkers!
Strong sprint to finish- a little out of it after that, just kept walking.
What would you do differently?:

Train for hills. Maybe wear a hat.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk, eat a little pasta.

Event comments:

Best so far!!! Several contacts with race organizers, they seemed to be just checking up on me. Was good.
Announced my arrival at finish line, and happy birthday!!

Course: HILLS!!! Mountain goat trails. SOOO pretty. Starting in the last wave, and being at the back of the pack, had a lot of the road to myself, it was hard and cool at the same time. Beautiful run along lake, and purple-flowered hillsides.
