I'm the new guy on the board. 1st race (or as I told my son, it's a timed event, I'm not racing anybody except myself) this weekend. Barron Lake triathlon in Niles, MI. .5 swim/18 bike/5 run. Looking to enjoy the course and experience. Appreciate the website and info found within. Decided to try the tri because at 45 I'm not getting any younger. Any hints on pre-event meal as to timing? Have read the carbo stuff. Just want to make sure I don't eat to soon before start. Thanks

coach jay has a post on pre and day of race nutrition at http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/thread-view.asp?threadid=151&posts=6

your race is more than a sprint but less than an olympic...a sprimpic SO i feel the nutritional guidlines outlined by jay should be good for u.

GREAT LUCK and let us know how u did!

My only suggestion would be not to change your diet too abruptly before the race. If you start to dump something in your body that it doesn't want to tolerate, it can make for a miserable race day. Can't wait to hear your race report.

Still Tri'n
